WOW.. ive been watching The Underground on Showtime and i have one question??
Is the best Sketch Comedy has to offer now that Chapelle has left?
This has to be the worst sketch comedy show ever produced. Repeats of "In Living Color" would have been better. I tried to give the show a chance but this is terrible comedy. If your going to insult along racial lines at least make it funny.

We don't have Showtime, so we're not regular viewers of the show, but we were on vacation and this show was on on the hotel TV. We turned it on to see the Vagina Monologues and about died laughing. It then went onto another skit about a young black guy with an elderly white grandmother. That was also funny.
Our only exposure to the show and we thought it was great. I guess we saw the best of it then?

On a purely humerous level it doesn't hold a candle to In Living Color, SNL (when theres a good crew), Mad TV or Chappelle Show.
The characters are rehashed ILC rejects...mr grumpy is a piss poor version of homie the clown. The shock value is so obvious and predictable. Who said showing a breast, penis or vagina was inherently funny?
there have been comments like its takes comedy to a new level...yep if that level is going down it does.
There are no break out characters, skits or comedians and we're 4 or 5 shows in already...the BEST comedy shows (mentioned above) already have at least that much by the 4th episode. Considering that Damon is a veteran at this there is no excuse...maybe he needs Keenan to help him out.
I've gotten into comedy writing and I'm honestly watching this show to learn what NOT to do. The only thing that makes me laugh are the Mafia skits only because that accent gets me every time. Private part jokes can be funny but there has to other kinds of funny jokes along with it. ILC and Chappelle's had scatological and sophmoric humor but it was mixed with sharp social satire also. Even the theme song is terrible.
The revolution will now be televised. Sundays on Adult Swim.

I totally agree with you. The show is a total disappointment. The only person I find remotely funny is Aries Spears and even his talent is stunted due to horrible writing and lackluster skits. I still watch and enjoy Chappelle and In Living Color but this show is truly the worst...I cant sit through a whole episode. If Showtime wants to keep their audience they'll can this trash ASAP.

shareIt's cliche, but true. It was funnier in person. The editing has done a real hack job on the sketches and much of the ad-libs and real comic gold is simply missing. I don't know whose fault that is, but it's unfortunate. Josh Flaum had a priceless taxicab bit that was one of the funniest improv routines I've ever had the privelege of seeing, but it didn't make it to air... DVD? Season 2? Even if it did make it into an episode, it would have to be cut down radically, and that might ruin it. I don't know.
shareSeason 1 isnt over, that was only 8 episodes, the other 8 are coming soon. But the cast has great talent, I think they just need 2 or 3 more people, and they need more exposure for the show.
