Could someone type out a recap...?

If it's not too much of a bother, could someone give me a recap of all the main important points? Unfortunately, Canadians can't watch the episodes online.

Thanks to anyone. I really appreciate it!

Here it its:
SPOILER! SPOILER! SPOILER!

Don't read on if you don't want to know what happens in episode 6!

Here's a recap for anyone who can't get the online episode to work.

It came out a little more long-winded than expected, but it was fun to write.

I'm not so great with names and I'm not certain my interpretation of events is so spot-on, so any corrections are welcome.

Also, favor please - could someone who belongs to the Television Without Pity site please repost it over there? I know some users were looking for a synopsis and I've never bothered to register, so if someone who already belongs could move it over, I'd appreciate it.

Day 6

Opens with Conrad sitting on the bed in his bedroom, staring up at the light fixture where one of the cameras was hidden, then ripped out. He goes into the bathroom and we hear Leo call out "Dad?" He turns to see Leo walk in, a spot of blood on his face. "Dad? Are you late for work?" "What happened?" Conrad asks. "You tell me," says Leo. "Show me what you did," says Conrad. A shaving mistake, apparently. Conrad puts a piece of tissue paper on the cut and teases Leo. The two laugh. Then a cut to Conrad standing alone in front of the bathroom mirror - another one of his flashbacks.

Cut to Conrad out jogging with one of the FBI guys (not sure which one, I'm getting them confused). He is talking on his hands-free to a business associate - seems he believes Sullivan's men were behind the cameras in the apartment. A call from Ellie cuts in. "Did they find all the cameras?" Conrad asks. "Yes, in every room but the bathroom, thank God," she says (my thought too). Conrad tells her to quit acting like she's the only one in this alone. "Excuse me?" asks Ellie, offended. But Conrad goes quiet. He sees a kid sitting on a park bench who looks exactly like Leo. Then the kid suddenly morphs into a homeless guy holding out a cup for change. "Spare $20 million for Leopold?" the guy asks. But then his words change into "Spare some change?" Conrad hallucinating again. This guy is really starting to lose it. We hear the sound of something breaking over the phone. "What's that?" Conrad asks Ellie. "I don't know."

Ellie hangs up with Conrad and we cut to Aubrey's room. She is throwing things at the light fixture where a camera was recently removed. She freaks out that someone has been watching her all this time. "We have to move," she tells Ellie. "No, it's Leo's home," Ellie says. "It's where we're going to bring him back." In the background, the maid calls to Ellie. A guest has arrived.

Cut to the library, where an older man with a beard is sitting with Alice, listening to her read. Rand, Ellie's father. "Girls, would you excuse us?" Ellie asks Alice and Aubry, who has followed her mother into the library. Rand tells Ellie that he was at a dinner party down in Washington when the Director of the FBI turned to him and said "It'll be OK". "I thought he was talking about the bisque," Rand says. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you," Ellie says, referring to Leo's kidnapping. She tells him that they've hired a professional to handle the case. "I know about this professional," says Rand, "Do you? Did you ever think of doing a background check on him?" Rand tosses a thick folder at Ellie. "I'm all that stands between you and the darkest night," he tells Ellie ominously. Then he says "It'll be OK," and kisses her on the forehead.

Cut to Knapp entering the room in the apartment where Turner is. "I should have found the cameras," Turner complains. "I should have swept the house." Knapp, who has apparently just come from a conversation with Rand, informs her that Rand has fired them from the case. Turner kicks herself again for not discovering the cameras. "Why didn't you find them?" Knapp asks - not accusing, but curious. "I wasn't expecting them to be there," she says. "You can't find what you're not looking for," Knapp says. "What's a kidnapping?" "A kidnapping is transactional," Turner says. "But cameras are personal," says Knapp. (Hmmmm, so this is about more than money, says I).

Cut to King, walking down the FBI hallways, towards the interrogation room. He is blocked from access by one of the agents. "Don't tell me I should have pushed my snooze button on my alarm this morning," says King. The agent tells him he has orders not to let anyone in. King's replacement (I don't know the name of this guy - the inept FBI supervisor) appears and tells King they're all blocked from interrogating Devere by the Director of the FBI. King bypasses the agent at the door and walks in anyway, looking through the glass to see that Devere is being questioned by Rand and the Director of the FBI.

Cut to Conrad, still jogging in the park. He and the agent are approached by two scroungy looking guys. "Conrad Cain?" says one of the guys, reaching into his pocket. Conrad punches the guy, knocking him to the ground. "We're cops!" yells the other guy, pulling a gun on Conrad. "Why didn't you say that first?" protests the agent. "We're taking you in for questioning on the murder of James Sullivan," says the cop and they lead Conrad away.

Cut to Knapp and Ellie in the library. "Didn?t you think to tell us you were in a sanitarium?" Ellie asks. "No." "Or that you were fired by the FBI?" "No." "What about the girl you lost? My father says you've become obsessed. Want to tell me about that?" "No." "Then you leave me no choice but to fire you. Give me one good reason why not?" Ellie asks. "Your husband has been arrested," Knapp says coolly. "Why?" "It's murky," Knapp tells her, explaining that he assaulted a plainclothes cop who didn't identify himself. "Is he under arrest for assault or for murder of James Sullivan?" asks Knapp. "Why did they send plainclothes cops?" asks Ellie. "That's the question - of course, unless the provocation was intended by your father," says Knapp, waving the folder Rand gave Ellie on Knapp's background. "Is that what you think happened?" Ellie asks sarcastically. "Yes," says Knapp.

Cut to Devere and Rand in the interrogation room. Rand tells Devere it is difficult to negotiate with a man who has nothing left to lose, then proceeds to barter over Devere's wife. He tells Devere she can either be on a plane to Costa Rica or to a country with a thriving sex trade where her English will be mistaken for cries of ecstasy (nice guy, this Rand). "The choice is yours," Rand tells Devere.

Cut to Rand in a business meeting with his staff. King barges in. "Can I have a minute of your time?" he asks Rand. "In a few minutes," says Rand, waving him away. "I'll settle for right now, sir," King says, not budging. "All right, but just one minute," says Rand, excusing his staff. King tells Rand he's making a mistake taking over the investigation. "You're out of your depth, sir," he says, pressing the point that he's dealing with people who don't think of him as a man of money and power - just a man of money. King tells him he's at risk to lose everything he loves if he messes this negotiation up. "Let me do my job," King begs. "Minute's up," Rand says coldly.

Cut to Conrad in an interrogation room at the police department. Knapp enters. "What's happening? They won't tell me anything," Conrad complains. Knapp indicates his suspicion that Conrad's father-in-law is behind this arrest and tells him they can hold him for 48 hours for assaulting the plainclothes cop. "I need to get in touch with the mayor," Conrad says and makes a comment about being scheduled to play racquetball with him tomorrow. "And he's playing squash with your father-in-law on Wednesday," says Knapp, subtly pointing out that Rand has as much - if not more - power than even Conrad. "Is that all you came down to tell me?" asks Conrad. "No. I came to tell you it's raining outside. Where's your umbrella?" says Knapp (I love this guy's euphemisms!). "All right," says Conrad, looking resigned and lowering his voice. "Don't write any of this down, but..."

Cut to Ellie on the phone, yelling at her father. "How dare you have him arrested! Are you insane? Whatever you did, undo it!" She is just getting ready to get on the elevator and head to the police station when Alice yells, "Mom! Come quick! It's Leo!" Ellie runs back to a room where Alice is seated in front of a computer. Images of Leo and of the rest of the family are playing over the computer. Turner enters the room. "They're not live, Mrs. Cain," she says. "They're from the cameras we recovered." They watch a replay of a scene between Leo and Ellie in the kitchen where Leo complains that the family never does what they want to do - only what they're programmed to do. "You're such a hypocrite!" Leo says to his mother. "Shut if off," Ellie says to Turner as she ushers Alice away from the computer screen.

Cut to Devere and Rand. Rand is offering Devere immunity from prosecution and a hefty trust fund for his wife in exchange for the return of Leo. "I don't know where the kid is," says Devere. "How do you call someone who calls someone who calls someone?" "It's a start," says Rand. After speaking briefly to his wife, Devere places the critical call - we hear computer sounds on the other end, a page of some sort. Devere hangs up. A minute later, the phone rings. "You have 20 seconds," says a distorted voice. "You know my situation?" asks Devere. "Yes," says the distorted voice. "They're offering double the amount - 40 million - and safe passage for the return of the kid." The person on the other end hangs up. "What's that mean?" asks Rand, upset. "It means they're considering it," replies Devere.

Cut to King, sketching the mysterious woman who killed the agents in last week's episode. Atkins enters and asks how Rand could take over a federal investigation. "He claims he's serving in an advisory capacity," says King. "How did he get you kicked off the case, then?" Atkins asks. "He said he doesn't want to work with agents who resent his advice," says King with an edge. "Who does he have in his pocket?" asks Atkins, shaking his head in wonder. "It's easier to ask who he doesn't have in his pocket," replies King, handing Atkins a folder. "What's this?" "Our file on Benjamin Rand," says King. "It's empty," says Atkins. King gives Atkins a knowing look. King's inept supervisor approaches. "How do you like working for your new boss?" asks King sarcastically. The supervisor whines about having no choice - Rand is friends with the Director and he doesn't want to wind up transferred to the Boise office. Then he tells King that Rand has put a deal on the table with the kidnappers - double the ransom. "Think it will work?" the supervisor asks King. "Not by conventional definition," says King. "Just make sure he gets proof of life."

Cut to Conrad and his lawyer sitting across from one of the plainclothes cops in the city precinct. "Am I under arrest or not?" asks Conrad. The cop tells him he's being held for assault, then proceeds to question him about James Sullivan - their friendship, his arrival at the party, when he left, etc. Conrad mentions Sullivan showed up at the party uninvited. "How did that make you feel?" asks the cop. "It ****** me off. That's why I killed him," Conrad jokes. "Want to put a signature to that?" asks the cop while the lawyer laughs and pushes the offered pen and paper away.

Cut to Knapp in Conrad's bedroom, pulling out one of his dresser drawers. He pulls out a small safe hidden in the back of the dresser and opens it, removing an envelope. "What are you doing?" we hear Aubrey ask. "I'm helping your father blackmail your grandfather to get out of jail," Knapp says (I love this guy). "Cool! What is it?" Aubrey asks, barely skipping a beat. "I promised I wouldn't look," says Knapp. "What's the fun in that?" Aubrey jokes.

Cut to Devere and Rand. "I saw your medical file," says Rand. "You have leukemia." He asks if Devere saw the kidnapping as a kind of life insurance for his wife. Devere begins to "open up" to Rand, telling him how his first marriage fell apart when he caught his wife in a lesbian affair, then met his second wife. They were on honeymoon in Cancun, getting massages, when the Mexican masseuse tells him he better see a doctor right away about the knot on his neck. (Sorry for the interruption, but do you think the mention of Mexico is purely coincidental? Hmmmmm). Devere went to the doctor who told him he had one year to live. Knapp suddenly enters the interrogation room, interrupting Devere's sad story. He hands Rand the envelope he has taken from Conrad's safe. Rand opens it. "Did you look at this?" he asks Knapp, sounding both angry and a little panicky. "No," says Knapp (not sure I believe that!). "Get the mayor," Rand says.

We cut to Conrad, on his cell headset, leaving the police station. He gets Knapp on the phone. "Thank you," he says. "Can you pass the phone to my father-in-law?" Knapp, still in the interrogation room, passes over the phone. "Hi, Dad," says Conrad sarcastically. "Don't be wise with me," snaps Rand. "Just because you can move a couple pieces around doesn't make you a chess player." However, Conrad clearly has Rand cornered. "What's going on with my son?" Conrad asks. Rand tells him he has a deal on the table with the kidnappers. "I want Knapp and King reinstated," Conrad says. Rand has no choice but to comply.

Cut to King in Virgil's hospital room (Am I dense? This is the first episode I realized Virgil was King's brother-in-law). King mentions that Ellie's father showed up "playing God". "That would be a demotion for him," says Virgil. Virgil says he met Rand a couple times and that he has a thing for Leo - wants to mold him in his own image. Then King shows Virgil his sketch of the killer woman. "Do you know her?" King asks. Is that a flicker of recognition on Virgil's face? A meaningful hesitation? "Who is she, Virg?" King asks. "I can't place her," Virgil says slowly. "Is she involved? I'll add her to my list," he says ominously. "Take it easy," says King. "We already have more cooks that skillets. These people we're dealing with don't speak the same language as you." "That's OK," says Virgil. "I'll use small words. I don't want to say more than I have to." (OK, something is definitely afoot here!)

Cut to the FBI interrogation room. Knapp is still in there with Rand and Devere. A call comes in to Rand. The distorted-voiced kidnapper begins to bargain terms. They start to haggle over a private jet. Knapp tells Rand to demand proof of life. Rand demands a phone calls from Leo or no deal. "If you turn it down, I'll know my grandson is dead," says Rand.

Cut to Mexico. Otto's cell phone rings. Otto picks up, says a couple words, then hangs up again. Bellows asks who it was. "They're scheduling a phone call," says Otto. He goes into Leo's room, where Leo is lying on the bed reading the book Otto gave him last week. "Get ready, kid. Looks like you're going home," Otto says. Leo doesn't look so convinced. Otto goes back into the kitchen to find Bellows loading his gun. "What are you doing?" Otto asks. "Getting ready to send the kid home," says Bellows.

Cut to King walking to his car. Atkins calls with information on Rand's background. Goes briefly into how the Rand family amassed their fortune. "Here's the thing that is most interesting..." Atkins begins to tell King.

Cut to Ellie and Conrad, entering the FBI interrogation room together, where Knapp, Rand and Devere are still gathered. "Have they called?" Conrad asks Rand. "Not yet," grumbles Rand, barely looking at Conrad. "Get him out," Conrad says, gesturing towards Devere. "No," says Ellie angrily. "I want him here." King enters the room. "Mr. Rand, can I talk to you in private?" he asks. "No," snaps Rand. "OK," says King, in a way indicating Rand is going to regret it. "Is there a reason you are such a big supporter of the fund for missing children? Leo is not the first child in your family to go missing, is he?" Silence. Rand looks away. Finally, Ellie answers for him. "I had a brother who was taken when he was four," she says. "A man was arrested, but he was never found." "Is there more to this story?" Knapp asks sharply. "What does that mean?" Rand snaps back. "Is there a serial kidnapper hidden in the attic of the family castle? Not in this century!" "What century then?" asks Knapp.

The phone rings. King gestures Rand to answer on speaker. "Mom?" Leo asks in a shaky voice. "Leo! Oh my god. Are you all right?" she asks. "I'm OK." "Are you taking your pills?" "Yeah." "Are they feeding you?" Leo pauses. "I just had breakfast," he says slowly. "Leo, we're going to bring you home, OK?" Ellie says. "Let's go," whispers Bellows, who is holding the cell phone up to Leo's ear. "I gotta go, Mom," Leo says. "No, Leo, wait!" Ellie says while Conrad yells "Leo!" in the background. Too late - Bellows hangs up the phone. King shakes his head at Conrad - no trace.

Back in the interrogation room, waiting for another phone call from the kidnapper. "Like it or not, my methods worked," Rand says to Conrad. "Do you ever get tired of hearing yourself speak?" Conrad asks. "From an objective third party, between me and you, he doesn't," quips Devere. "What organism can be lower than you?" asks Ellie. "What can my son mean to you? A car? A boat? A house?" Devere launches into a long "I don't expect you rich people to understand" speech, winding up with "Why should I have nothing when you have everything?" Then the phone rings - the kidnapper, demanding 40 million, release of Devere, and Rand acting as courier and driver in exchange for Leo. Rand says no to the release of Devere. "Those are the terms," says the kidnapper before hanging up.

Cut to Otto and Bellows, playing cards in the kitchen. "I don't think you should kill the kid," Otto says. "I agree," says Bellows, much to Otto's surprise. "Not that I'm particularly fond of that kid," continues Bellows, "but I think we should settle this more democratically." He suggests flipping a coin over who will kill Leo while Otto looks horrified. "Heads or tails?" asks Bellows. "No, I'm not doing it," says Otto. "It's part of your job. It's just as easy for me to dig two graves as one," says Bellows. Resigned, Otto calls out Heads. Bellows flips and gets Tails. He put the gun in front of Otto. "Don't sweat it - nothing a couple of tropical drinks can't erase. I'm gonna go lie down," Bellows says. He leaves while Otto stares down at the gun in front of him.

Cut back to FBI headquarters - the staff is gathering money in several suitcases while King reviews with Rand the logistics of the ransom drop. Conrad and Ellie insist they will go along for the ride on the ransom drop. Rand, the Cains and the FBI Director leave. "They're really going to let Devere out of custody?" Knapp asks King. "Yeah," says King. "I really gotta learn to play racquetball," says Knapp. King tells Knapp the sheer weight and bulk of the ransom money and questions how the kidnappers intend to pick it up. The FBI needs a steel transport just to get it to the drop-off site. They look at each other with that "something's up" glance, then Knapp says "We need an insurance policy on Devere."

Cut to the FBI bathroom, where Devere is being prepped to leave. King motions the other FBI agents out, leaving just him and Knapp with Devere. Knapp beats up Devere, trying to find out how the kidnappers intend to transport so much money and whether or not Leo will really be at the drop as promised. Devere gives nothing up. King hands Knapp a needle and Knapp injects something into Devere's shoulder. "What's that? What did you put into me?" Devere asks. "Radium compound," says Knapp, who then leaves. "Are you going to let him do that to me?" Devere whines to King. "Do what?" asks King. "Sorry, man. I spaced." (Any clue on what the radium compound is supposed to do, anyone?)

Cut to the drop site, night scene, somewhere desolate along the Ea

reply

Radium is a very highly radioactive chemical, it's use in consumer products stopped after people realised how dangerous it could be. However it is used to treat cancer. (I looked it up on wikopedia)

Wow that was great of you for those of us who can't get it online. Thanks
