WB thinks Cavill can no longer lead a solo film

Think his tenure as Superman is over.

WHEN DID HE EVER LEAD A SOLO FILM?..

reply

The Man from U.N.C.L.E?...............Napoleon SOLO :D

reply

LMAO...NAILED IT!

reply

Man from UNCLE and Immortals.

reply

This is such sleight-of-hand bullshit. They're acting like they cannot pay to hire someone to write or direct a good Superman movie and the Snyder-verse debacle was all Cavill's fault.

reply

Not a fan of Cavill as Superman. I don't know if I can blame him so much as the makers of the films. Cavill simply does not have the gravitas to pull it off. He has no sense of humor whatsoever. No real timing.

reply

Christopher Reeve had a screen presence and charisma that Cavill doesn't come close to.

reply

It's all bad. Cavill doesn't have the charisma and Snyder's direction was shallow.

reply

He's a far better actor than given credit for. Seriously, watch Guy Ritchie's The Man from UNCLE.

reply

He doesn't have the same screen presence as Christopher Reeve and lovabilitly.

reply

News flash. no one can match Reeve. So we should move the fuck on already.

reply

He probably isn't going to come back if they ever do another Superman movie which is gonna be a long while.

reply

Cavill is too busy with The Witcher, Adams is too old to be Lois Lane, due to a long period of inactivity a new movie would need a new actor.

reply

Bummer.

reply

Brandon Routh sends his condolences.

reply

Since Justice League there's been no talk or interest in getting a Man Of Steel 2 off the ground, so MOS, BVS and JL have killed any hope for a second solo Cavill film.

reply

Here's a thought, WB. Hire new directors and writers. Then people will be interested.

I'm a big fan, but I don't think Cavill is lead star material. He's missing that key magnetism ingredient. Just like Armie Hammer, Alexander Skarsgard, that sons of Anarchy guy. These guys are good looking boys and good actors, and they keep trying to make them lead stars, but it just doesn't work. Cavill has also proved repeatedly he works better in a team shared capacity, as with Witcher or Mission Impossible and lately the Snyder Cut. He's not a bad star, but works best in an ensemble. Doesn't help that white men are out of style in tinsel town. I'm sure he's not getting the right scripts where he can prove himself and hone his craft. A few gritty period pieces would do a lot for his career, not more mindless action romps.

yes the 'handsome str8 white male' actors are going to take a real hit now .. Hammers already cancelled. theres all the Chris's who should be ok as they mostly MCU (i know Evans is done as Cap but hes still super popular bc of that role and Pine is obvs done as steve trevor but will probably be in star trek again and i could see him gliding over into MCU at sum point), cavill probably wont be superman again unless its like a cameo/minor role like affleck in Flash..however i think hes possibly gearing up to be the next Bond (hes the right age late 30s, he came close to being bond in CR and Eon usually has the 'almost Bond' play Bond at later date, also Eon probably want a more established name than usual to take over from Craig and Cavil is established due to superman but isnt too big a name as those movies were/are kind of niche at least compared to MCU, and hed be like a 'safe' choice over someone more radical like a black actor )

reply

He doesn't have the same screen presence or charisma as Christopher Reeve which not many of the other Superman actors come close to.

He's not likely to get a second chance because the problem nowadays with movies trying to start a franchise if the first movie doesn't win everybody over they'll scrap all sequel plans and start over, similar problem with TV shows if you don't have high enough ratings in the first ten episodes they give it the axe and there's no time anymore for it to grow and improve, it means second chances are at a disadvantage or extremely rare.

A movie can't be made around an actor, a character like Superman is bigger than the actor, no actor should a movie made around them for them I think that can easily fall into massive issues and possibly end up with something absolutely garbage.

At the end of the day, I don't think anybody had a good idea for a Man of Steel 2 script and still don't. Let alone how it would tie in well with what really became something of the Batman's Justice League Saga.

A fresh Superman movie, you can do anything. You can even roll out that tired old origin story again. Being forced to build off of Zack's established universe is a lot of painted corners. Keeping Cavill is just complications on complications.

Although I have no real interest in a Flash movie, a properly made Flash movie can give something of closure to the Snyder-verse storylines while setting up new Batman and Superman series, and still keep fan favorites Mamoa and Gadot in their respective roles. I'm not sure they're that ambitious though.

Nothing would please me more than to release Cavill from the cape, which is a very limited role, and set him loose on a big series of new Bond films. He's already said he wants to play the Witcher forever, so that's gonna eat up half his schedule for the rest of his young, buff and handsome years. Standing around stoically murmuring things to Lois and floating around on wires in front of green screens ain't the best use for the rest of that time. He's proven himself very physically compelling on screen. He might not have the best charisma but he's awesome at that.

reply

Another thing to remember is Cavil has been superman pretty much a decade now 4 films (was cast around 2011 - Synder JL just released). Reeve was superman a decade 4 films.

And yeah The Flash will no doubt change stuff up and allow a new JL to form somewhere down the line retaining gadot, momoa but with new versions of superman, batman

reply

Imagine it being hard to a sequel with how JL ended and trying to build off it, I don't think anyone would wanna do a sequel at the moment. Would like to see a Superman movie that can get out of Lex Luthor or Zod.

reply

If you ask me the future of Superman movies are now stuck between a rock and a hard place, fans want to see more movies with Cavill but the chances of it are slim.
