The handling of the DC universe hasn't been that bad.

The only really bad film I thought was BvS. The rest have been decent super hero action flicks.

I think the DC movies suffer from being compared to Marvel movies, which have generally been superior.

It's the only installment that I've truly disliked as well; the rest I liked or just felt being harmless if mindless. Objectively speaking though, they've wasted so much potential. Justice League especially was a bland neutered shell of what could have been something better. I don't think it's a total loss but the window is closing rapidly. The upcoming slate sounds good but we've been here before. Eventually people will stop caring. Who knows, the DCEU might accidentally usher the decline of the current superhero boon.

I think it's both, really; yeah, Snyder likely wasn't going to succeed all the way with his vision. I didn't mind Man of Steel, but there were some clear signs there that this might not hold for the long haul. But it's also likely the case that WB probably pushed things like, for example, rushing to get Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman into the same movie as soon as possible, so they could play catch up with Avengers, plus there's all the chaos that surrounded the making/reshooting/editing of Suicide Squad and Justice League. WB's track record over the past decade or so is pretty rancid, ranging from the way they seemed hell bent on draining any vibrancy and enjoyment from the production of the Hobbit trilogy, to the really underwhelming new Harry Potter spinoff series, to how they've gone about trying to get the DCEU going without any real idea in mind what they want the whole thing to be in the first place, and those problems would be there whether or not Snyder was. Wonder Woman feels like the real exception in all of that.

As for villains that could be used in other Justice League teamups, a version of the Legion of Doom could certainly work but, yeah, not much work has gone into building that up, either. Sinestro Corps, maybe, once they do whatever they're planning to do with Green Lantern?

imo BvS is good real movie, while I find all marvel movies (except ca winter soldier, and iron man 1, 2, 3) are comedies for kids. Although I liked Thor rognarok. But rest of the movies are just simple comedies with no scenario.

I like BVS the more I watch it. I think they should have kept Doomsday out of it, but until then I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Yes, the handling of the DC CBMs HAS been that bad!

It's like there was an official corporate policy handed down from on high, stating that above all else, the DC films must not be fun.

If By "The handling of the DC universe hasn't been that bad."......................you Mean It has been the biggest creative failure in Hollywood History that resulted in The Biggest Missed opportunity in Hollywood history.......then ya I agree

reply

Disagree. As bad as the DCEU has been, Universals "Dark Universe" beat it 6 ways to Sunday.

reply

Yes, the dark universe was undeniably awful.

^^^^
Isn't Universal's Dark Universe basically Just The Mummy and Then They gave Up?

I do not know how you possible compare 1 failed film that resulted in a Universe never getting off the ground.....To a 5 years Reign of Failure where they Produced 4 out of 5 AWFUL DCEU films, where WB hired and fired 4 different BOSSES to run the DCEU branch, where They Literally Missed up and damaged Characters so horrifically They Literally Have to recast and Reboot....

Affleck is out as Batman, They are completely recasting and Rebooting

Cavil Is out as Superman, WB doesnt feel A Cavil lead Superman movie can earn its potential after Snyder Trainwreck of a Trilogy

The Joker is Recast and currently shooting a Reboot

It was announced today, Suicide Squad 2 is gonna be a complete reboot with James Gunn Directing....

I mean were talking 4 out of 5 films that were supposed to "Start" a cinematic Universe.....that ended up being so disastrously awful, WB is literally Giving up and rebooting the characters and films....

Lets not also forget, WB Literally KILLED a potential 7 Billion + franchise In Justice League With ONLY 1 film....

Marvel Studios is currently on thier 4th Avengers film(5th if you count CW) and The Avengers is now the biggest box office draw in hollywood history With A combined gross over 6 Billion + and Will easily top 7.5 B

meanwhile WB's Potential 5 film franchise that could have easily had similar 7 Billion dollar success is DEAD after 1 film....

I'm sorry I just do not see a comparison between The Dark Universe and The DCEU.....The Pure Depths and Level of failure done in the 5 years span of the DCEU is quite frankly unlikely anything ever seen in Hollywood history

and The Pure Damage Done....I mean My god Batman was a proven 1 Billion dollar Box office draw before Snyder got a hold of him ....lol The Damage done to the character with BvS and JL literally resulted in Batman Losing over 40% of its drawing Power and audience...

I did not enjoy The Mummy, but luckily It was only 1 bad film, Luckily Universe didnt spend the next 5 years making terrible movies that horrifically damaged the characters and only resulted in Shame ans Mockery ....

No, bill....Dracula Untold was SUPPOSED to be the start of the Dark Universe (much like Green Lantern was SUPPOSED to be the start of the DCEU) but when that failed they moved onto the Mummy. So it's had two aborted starts and THAT makes it a bigger failure than the DCEU. Thanks to Wonder Woman you can at least sday not every one of those films is a horrible failure.

No, bill....Dracula Untold was SUPPOSED to be the start of the Dark Universe (much like Green Lantern was SUPPOSED to be the start of the DCEU)

^^^

from what I remember, Dracula Untold was only "Turned" into part of the Dark Universe in way post Production after Cruise came on board for The Mummy....

They then shot a Post credit scene for Untold..

But Dracula Untold was orginalyl greenlit, produced and made with no intentions of a universe....

but I must say, Your argument that Dracula Untold makes The Dark Universe is a bigger failure is actually the opposite...

Dracula Untold was actually a Hit and The Studios made a Good Profit on the film...Dracula Untold was made on a 70 Million Budget and make 217 Million WW....

I'm sorry but Dracula Untold If anything can only be counted as a success..

but again, No one really thought of Dracula Untold as part of The Dark Universe....The Dark Universe was thought of and created when Cruise came on Board for The Mummy, They then did The Production picture With Cruise,Depp,Crow and Bardem

http://digitalspyuk.cdnds.net/17/21/980x490/landscape-1495474879-dark-universe.jpg

Notice Luke Evans isnt in the picture?

thats because Dracula Untold really wasnt part of The Dark Universe...The entire film was made and completed before there was any intentions of starting the Dark Universe....

but again even if you want to consider Dracula Untold Part.....that Means The Dark Universe was actually 1 for 2 and NOT 0 for 2.....as Untold was actually a hit....

therefor, I'm sorry but 1 for 2 is better than 1 for 5....

The DCEU shit the bed with 4 out of 5 films....

The Dark Universe shit the bed with 1 out of 2 films(if we count Untold)

also worth noting again, The Dark Universe Did not Literally Damage ICONIC characters....

The Mummy was never a 1 Billion + earner that lost 40% of its audience and earner power....

Batman Literally suffered Irreparable damage from being Part of the DCEU.....Batman was a proven Billion dollar box office draw before Snyder got a hold of him ....lol The Damage done to the character with BvS and JL literally resulted in Batman Losing over 40% of its drawing Power and audience...

Suicide Squad Is Now being rebooted because The Movie was so awful

The Joker is being rebooted

Superman movies arent even being considered because WB feels the character is damaged

and again NOTHING can account for The damage done to The Justice League franchise....

say what you will about The Dark Universe, The Mummy,Wolfman,Dracula.....None had the potential box office revenue of a Justice League franchise(Literally a potential 5 film franchise that could gross over 7 Billion) and Its DEAD after 1 Film where WB lost 60 Million...

lol

The Dark Universes failure dont even come close to 1 of The failures in the DCEU let alone all of them combined

Man of Steel is the bad movie because the way they write Superman so poorly.
What a snooze hey lets make him more special your not just the last Kryptonian, your the first one born naturally in xx years.

Good points but you need to use sentences in your posts my friend.

That requires literacy and sobriety; also, cogitation.

I have liked all the DC movies though the only one I disliked a bit was Suicide Squad. Mainly cause the villain wasn't done that well. The only reason I don't feel that way about Justice League's villain is because he was really just a lackey for Darkseid.

I thought Batman v Superman was the best DC universe film so far -- epic fight between the 2 title characters, great intro of Wonder Woman, and many memorable scenes. It had a similar story line to Captain America: Civil War, but was much more memorable.

The DC universe hasn't been great, but it looks bad because Marvel keeps stringing together good movies, even on their secondary titles.

Green Lantern wasn't that bad.
Man of Steel was very good.
Batman v Superman was great.
Wonder Woman was great.
Aquaman was entertaining.
Justice League was embarrassingly bad. Not sure why they're going with Cyborg and making Flash a joke.
