Bus swerving off the road into the water because of a car is the same thing that happened to Lex in season 1, episode 1. In addition, Clark and the drink trucker, and him messing with his car is the same thing that Clark did to Whitney in season 1, when he strung him to a tree and bullied him.

Were they stealing from Smallville?

Maybe they're trying to connect all the various "Superman" themed shows, movies, comic books, etc
