"MoS" vs. "Superman (1978)"

"Superman" is a way better film on every possible level. The cinematography alone is breathtaking during the Kansas segments. And the old-school special effects are way more interesting than the buckets of crappy CGI in MoS.

"No no no- don't tug on that... you never know what it might be attached to."

Can't really disagree here.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

I like both movies.

You can't judge it fairly with all that nostalgia in the way. Like I love Superman 4! Nostalgia does some crazy stuff to the brain.

"Superman The Movie" wins with ease.

I'm gonna rape man of steel into the dirt

First we have to take the character of superman

In the reeves version superman is more well defined and has a personality and traits...the superpowers feel like a add on. Superman goes through a heroes journey to realize his destiny. He has a clear personality and makes his own decisions

Man of steel version is awful, he has no personality and fails the red letter media test as well as the superpowers test...his character is boring and has no humanity to such character. The actual decision of becoming superman is off screen and feels like superman is a boring reactive character. Every decision made in this movie is either forced by other people or plot convenient. He doesn't learn anything in the end and had already made a commitment to become a superhero earlier in the movie...he doesn't bring up the death of zod, or use that to define said character. We are never told that superman won't hurt another human being...this is the tip of the ice berg

This is a lesson

You are *beep* if your characters are boring...no amount of plotting can save a awful main character and a lifeless cast

One is a great Superman movie, the other is Man of Steel.
