Memoirs of a Geisha was a book about a Japanese girl, written by an American, which then was turned into a movie by an American director, whos main characters were played by Chinese actors... and it turned out great... so I dont see anything wrong with this.

I heard this movie will be released in cinemas around the world starting March, but it had started showing in Ulaanbaatar, capital of Mongolia. Mongolians already made few movies about Genghis khan and we think there's nothing wrong in Japanese doing film on Genghis khan.

shareIt is no different than all the historical epics done in English. yes it is weird at first to hear Japanese come from Mongolian characters, and I REALLY thought so because I live in Japan, but like I said, it is no different that English being the default language for historical films. It is however a huge double standard, and definately one born from English speaking world's assumption that they are the default culture of the world.
shareWell, Japanese belongs to Altaic language group, same as Mongolian and Korean language...so in a sense, Japanese language is closer than we thought, most of Japanese even maintain the strong Mongolian feature.I don't see a problem for Japanese portraying Mongolians, just like we don't see any problem seeing any Anglo-Americans portraying any Europeans in most of Hollywood films. But it would be worst seeing an Anglo-American portraying as a Native-American in some old Hollywood films though.....
