Is it good? Please tell me!

Is this mini-series good? Does anyone know when it will air in the US/Canada? I know the women who plays Sally Davis and would really like to see her in it!

Thanks! I'll watch for it for sure!

i would highly recomend this show have just watched the final episode and thought it was fantastic.

reply

this show was like a mini version of 24, it was fantastic I hope it does at well at the tv baftas next year

reply

but it is 10X better than 24. the last couple of seasons were uninteresting. i just watched the first series back to back, never felt like it was dragging. bbc does such a great job with most dramas (only a few in the US come close). sadly, all the ones that are good in the US get cancelled prematurely. just hope the epipsodes aren't edited down when they air on bbc america (like they do with spooks/MI5).

It's scheduled to air on BBC America in February. The Region 1 DVD is due out at the end of February--you can pre-order it through Amazon.

The actual show was a co production between the bbc and bbc america. I really hope it goes down well over there, there is a huge market for complex thrillers in the U.S an audience of 1% would be fatastic. The show is mainly set in america and deal's with the common politics of both sides (mostly a post 9'11 world where the enemy is far more than just political enemy and the tactics of diplomacy are very murky indeed). I'd advise any american friends to enjoy this show as a good example to expand their horizons.
so long and thanks for all the fish

I'd be surprised if this show did well here (I'm in NY and just watched the whole thing thanks to wonders of the internet, ehemmm). It is fantastic but keeps you much more in the dark for much longer than a typical US production. As a viewer you're actually asked to pay attention and put the pieces of the puzzle yourself (imagine that!). Complexity doesn't sell in mass quantities here. My guess would be: it'll gain a niche cult following, great word of mouth and perhaps some notoriety on Fox but it won't become a runaway success. I hope I'm wrong though...

This series is supposed to air here in the US Feb 17th, on the BBC America channel...One needs digital cable to get that channel, so it will be available to a limited number of folks, I know my digital cable is outrageous...
I cant wait for the DVD to become available, from Amazon UK 1/22/07. Region 2.
Region 1 for the US will be available on DVD Feb 27th.

I luved this series..I think its a gripping, roller coaster thrill ride. I liked the fast pace and story line. Of course, the reason I viewed it was because of the most under rated actor these days, Jason Isaacs..His performance as the British Ambassador was exhilarating..Kudos to the BBC for producing a series like this. We, the public, do have brains and read/watch the daily news.
...Thanx to our friends "across the pond"..

if you need digital cable it looks like I'll be waiting for the DVD!
for those who have seen it...how big of a role does the character Sally Davis have in the episodes? Is she in them all? I kinda know Emma Campbell and want to see her performance.

Here in Canada, it's starting tonight or in the early hours of Tuesday, Jan. 30 on SHOWCASE Canada. They will be running 70 minute episodes. Here in Saskatchewan, we get it at midnight, 3:10 a.m., and 6:20 a.m. on Tuesday. {this will be the first episode shown three times and then weekly from then on).

Diane, bummer you don't get it in prime time. Here in BC it will be on at 10 before the wee-small-hour repeats. I thought Showcase didn't do timezone shifting like that. After all, they keep plugging their "don't miss it" 10:00 programming -- you'd think that would be national.

reply

And I don't get showcase! booo! Let's hope PBS brings it on!

Now wait just a clock tick...

The series is a BBC/BBC America coproduction, so look for it on BBC America. I heard it was going to air in February, but that could have just been a misunderstanding

I saw this on the BBC in December and I've just watched it again on the DVD that arrived two days ago. It is a cracking political thriller and with the current Middle East/Asia problems very topical, too. The plot, which essentially takes place in the US, is quite complex and involves various strands that you might wonder how they are all connected but it slowly comes together and the last two episodes create a (to use a cliche) cracking pace.

I was very impressed with the production, clearly a lot of money has been spent, creating an airline crash on a motorway for example. The acting and casting are first class. The direction is predictably very contemporary with plenty of fast edits plus background sounds for extra punch.

Overall I thought it was very impressive and I know I'll be watching this many more times. Oh and the plot is very, very believable!

I have also purchased the DVD, and have been enjoying this series...Even though it hasnt aired yet here in the US, it is due on Feb 17th, on the BBC America channel. There are many factors that make this an enjoyable, believeable drama.
I agree the Cast and Production are first rate, the direction and story are fast paced. The first 2 eps are filmed, I dont know how to explain it, NOT with a steady cam...the shots move around abit, but this calms down back to the norm by episode 3..I think that helps to add to the plot and conspiracy thriller...I was disappointed to hear that the BBC would not be renewing this series, I was looking forward to the further dilemmas of Sir Mark Brydon, the British Ambassador to the US...
Just a note, keep in mind, if you purchase the DVD from the UK, you will be unable to view this here in the US...UK DVD's are Region 2, and here in the US the DVD's are Region 1...Unless, you decide to view this on your computer, which is a whole different story...So go out and buy the UK/US DVD when available, sit back and enjoy the roller coaster ride...

pretty weak stuff put out for angry brits who are pissed at the us at the moment, its pretty thin gruel for anyone else.

reply

I found it riveting. Jason Isaacs' performance is excellent. Available on Netflix if you don't get digital cable. Well worth the time!

It's a like an ingredient; bowl of labiryhth, dash of cat-and-mouse, cup of time bomb, and voila.
Taut and intense thriller unlike other fictional political thrillers (No Way Out, Favorite Son - http://imdb.com/title/tt0094462/, Absolute Power, A Very British Coup, House of Cards, and so on). I've never ever seen like this as my heart felt racing and I'm totally hyperactively intriuge the whole story.
24 is a political thriller about secret agents.
The State Within is a politcal thriller about diplomacy.

Can't wait for the DVD on amazon.com tomorrow! Yesh!!!

I had recorded the last episode and finally got to see it tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed this series. Jason Isaacs does another fine job.

We watched it on the Dish Network, BBC America and enjoyed every minute of it. Sharon Gless is an old (pardon me), dear TV friend, so it's good to see her get a meaty part again; she's always been the greatest. My wife's British (I'm a Yank), and between us we loved it, but I agree that even with the current government over here, we wouldn't toss a bunch of "fureners" into jail or detain them, just because they were part of an ethnic group. We still believe in the rights of the individual, and with an upcoming change of government, we may become as savy as the Brits in watching our homeland, but with justice. Our hats off to you across the pond for your level headed approach to the dangers of our current world. We're hoping that sequels are on the horizon in more ways than one.

I loved the story. With the current war. You may think that someone is not doing just that here. How much is Halaburton making over there.

reply

I have the DVD and it's an awesome story with an Hitchcockian thriller on acid.
