Music??
Was it just me or did the music come across as sounding like Cliff Martinez' score for Solaris (the Stephen Soderbergh version)?

I third that. Big, fat rip-off of Martinez' wonderful score.
But then, inspiration was hardly lacking in the script...I think someone at the BBC thought they could sneak this out and blithely gloss-over that the target audience probably has a better recollection of the things they were trying to plagiarize than they did.
Plagiarise what exactly? Er, there was me thinking that this was a remake of the 1961 BBC classic starring Peter Halliday and Julie Christie. It seems to me that all the plagiarising is of that original - 'Contact', 'Species', etc. Come on guys, get it together
