I almost laughed my head of when I first heard about this film! Mimzy is a childish name for a vagina! How come no one has noticed that, or is it that it will be removed because it's a naughty word.
Drone5 is correct that the inspiration of the title of this movie comes from Lewis Carroll's "Jabberwocky." However, the real source is a science-fiction short story from Lewis Padget (the pen name of Harry Kuttner) titled, "Mimsy were the Borogroves," first published in 1945. It's an excellent story, although much darker and different than the film. So let's forget all the dirty innuendo from all the small petty little prudish minds!
Words often have multiple meanings... your mixing them up is understandable.
The priggish behaviour of the holier-than-thous here is almost reprehensible. Gee whiz, a word has a sexual connotation... let's get all apoplectic in disgust because someone noticed it.
There's a sharp irony in their accusations of immaturity.
It's not apoplectic in disgust because "someone noticed it" -- it's disgust in their lack of knowledge (or refusal to acknowledge) of the obvious meaning which was pointedly displayed and referred to throughout the entire movie: a classic of literature which is one of the classic books of all time, beloved by both children and adults; distaste for the meaning of a word that is much lesser known (I've never heard of that usage), much less important, and plainly, quite stupid in context and yes, ridiculously profane ...especially when the main characters are children.
I'm far from a prig, but adolescent potty humor suitable for maximum, a pre-teen, combined with illiteracy (we're not talking 'War and Peace' here -- we're talking about the Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking GLass books which EVERY English-speaking child knows) engenders Scorn ...or, admittedly, in a better person; Pity.
they named it after the short story 'Mimsy Were the Borogoves' which its based on ...a very important part of the of the story involves the poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll ...i hope that helps
I've never heard anyone refer to a vagina as a mimsy before. I'm almost certain trolls on urban dictionary go around creating entries just to add euphemisms to words just for sh*ts and giggles.
Probably not what YOU were thinking. If children called their tackle "Donald" I suppose you'd see Donald Duck in an odd light too. Today we accept that the word "gay" is used to refer to homosexuality, but up to the late '50s it simply meant "carefree" and "hedonistic", with no sexual connotation at all. In the States to "lose one's cherry" means to "lose one's virginity". That said I don't get any sexual frisson when I drink a Cherry Cola! Any word can be adopted as having a different meaning, especially by small and impressionable kids ... and some adults too!
