ally sheedy

I thought this movie was pretty good, but Ally Sheedy was given nothing to work with. She is such a talented actress, but was given three shots in the movie and the dialogue was very limited. This lady has as much if not more talent than any of the other actors involved and should have been given a better role to show it.

What a well thought-out response. Thanks for your contribution to this forum and to life in general.
stfu...short but brilliant. I had never seen that one before.

On a serious note, I agree with the OP, Ally Sheedy was wasted in that role. Why not just get a lesser-known no-name actress instead? I didn't even understand the point of her character to begin with. I know there was probably some heady social commentary intended in having Elijah wood seek advice from a distracted, crossword puzzle playing therapist, but her character was dull it was lost on me.

I didnt think her character was dull at all

He had been going to see her for 7 years and she was sick listening to him , and she looked it......nailed

There are many reasons:

1) It could be she really believed in the message of the movie
2) The director might know her and asked
3) She has an independent personality and will do this kind of work to support these kinds of films
4) She might have wanted to work with the main actors.
5) She might have been in the area and wanted a few dollars
6) Her part might have been cut substantially

Anyway ... just some reasons to consider.

The role was small but if you think about it and have any knowledge of the mental health crisis in the US it speaks volumes. Resources for mental health are a farce. She'd been seeing Aaron for 7 years and failed to recognize he was in real crisis. He was like the boy who cried wolf going to whine and complain about his life and situation for so long that when he truly was in crisis she blows him off and gives him a pill.

I asked the producer about the medications prescribed and if there was an intended commentary of mental health and antidepressants...he said no there is no intentional message. And yet intentional or not, antidepressants can cause an increase in SI and and increase in the actual development of a plan to carry out said ideation.

This post is so wrong, it's laughable.
No therapist is that openly apathetic, other than in the mind of someone with a serious personality disorder. Her dialogue was completely unbelievable.
He wasn't even in "real crisis" when he saw her that last time. He was worried his fellow soldiers wouldn't like him. And she didn't give an antidepressant, which he might have benefited from; she gave him a sleeping pill, which no competent psychiatrist would do either.
