Extremely disturbing

This is an excellent movie, but it's also a damning indictment on our society. Not just Japanese society but all human society. It left a bad feeling with me. There is a sense that all of the people in the movie were jointly responsible for the tragic decline and demise of Matsuko. There are probably many people whose lives end up in a sorry state like the main character in this story. A very sad and frightening story.. It seems that only being slightly mentally unbalanced or unstable would be enough to completely destroy a life. A bit too close to reality for my liking, but still great.

Completely agree. If it wasn't for the moments of light relief (and small glimmer of hope towards the end) I think it would have found the movie unbearable.

Having just finished watching the film (and already slightly in a fragile state prior) the movie really did hit home for me, and make me grateful for the support I have. Not ashamed to admit that I found numerous scenes extremely upsetting.Even though I consider myself a fairly cynical movie-goer, the post-modern style didn't hurt the underlying themes and messsage one bit.

This is the first Tetsuya Nakashima film I've seen, and I'll definately be on the lookout for his other stuff. His latest (Confessions) seems to have also hit home for many.
