A good balance review for this film

A good balance review for this film.

This is a really good film. I hope more people will be able to see it. After watching so many stylish chinese films that seem to care more for the cinematography than telling a story, it's refreshing to see this down-to-earth realistic film.

I don't think it's a good movie afterall. The story is so lame that you really dont care much about the characters most of the time. The ending was definitely awful to watch with someone just showed up in the last few minutes, very weak ending indeed. The acting and directing was average I wish I would have spent the time to watch some other pieces like Rob-B-Hood (a 06 great action drama flick from Jackie Chan) instead of this Director's cut.

Just curious. Do u know that the 'someone' who showed up in the last few minutes is the little boy who has grown up?

I ask because I find it strange that u would call him 'someone' if u know he's the little boy (who has grown up).

yes... i agree. a good film indeed. and being malaysian, i can relate it even better. the malaysian cantonese, the small sub-urban town and etc.

i only hv 1 perk bout this film, which is... after how boy's father screw him up, and feeling sorry for himself towards the end of the film. how come he did reconcile with his son?

Me too :). I really appreciate the director's care for details in the dialogue. The dialogue is so Malaysian, with the 'suma', 'mo', 'tiu fei gei' and the mixture of malay words like 'bas sekolah' in it. Not only that. The director also made sure that the actors said their dialogue in the Malaysian slang/intonation. Even the kid did so (the way he said 'uncle' and 'auntie').

It's definitely a keeper film for me. :)

Hmm. Did he reconcile with his son? The version I saw, his son only watch the father from afar. Then, the movie ends.

reply

Sorry, a typo error. No, he didn't reconcile with his father. He was just looking from a far. I then watch the extended version, hoping to see an alternative ending... but its still the same as the short version.

It really does portray the rustic charm of old Malaysian towns, the beauty of the scene when Shing walks into river as the camera pans into the horizon is simply breathtaking.

The movie does a good job in portraying the Malaysian way of life, and also the life of those who have been through such a path.

However the ending is quite disappointing. It was somehow, too "summarized". Perhaps it was how the movie was intended to be.

wow so "realistic", that kid can simply enter anyone's home easily. waste of time really, i gave it 2/10

This film is stupid as the sex scene between Aaron Kwok and Kelly Lin with classic Malay song playing in the background.

1/10.
