What is going on with Animal Planet?

When I first saw Meerkat Manor, I thought "how clever, they're doing a reality show with animals". I felt in love with the show and the characters but lately, Animal Planet has taken the reality aspect too far.

They try to duplicate the success of Meerkat Manor with other animals but they just don't work. Every time I turn on the channel, I see some sort of animal attack episode or animal police. What happened to all the beautiful landscapes and beautiful animals for a nature lover? I used to watch Animal Planet obsessively but now hardly anymore. Maybe I'll return for new episodes of Meerkat Manor but the other shows are horrid.

I agree, I rarely watch Animal Planet these days ever since they switched to the Animal Police format.

I completely agree with you about Animal Planet's programming.

I noticed it last August when they aired a show called "Animal Gladiator's". This show was about the slaughter of animals by gladiators in Roman colosseums. That show seemed to me to be 'anti-animal'. Then they started "Untamed and Uncut".

It seemed to me AP did away with the pleasant animal documentaries and went to a schedule that had bloodier shows.

I agree. It's sad.

They need more shows like Meerkat Manor. And more straight-up documentaries. Back off all the shows aired for shock value.

They are very harsh on animals. I don't get it. They should understand the people who are watching are likely to love animals and won't want to see them abused in any way.
