Why is Mike always so uncomfortable around the husbands?

You can tell that Mike just eats up the praise and thanks he gets from the female homeowners. But when it comes to being thanked by the husbands, he seems distinctly uncomfortable. I wonder why. Maybe he secretly looks down on any man who can't make all those repairs on his own?
