This movie sucks so bad.

I work at blockbuster and was very excited to see that we got this in. I decided to rent it finally and I am still in the midst of watching this and its making me want to throw up. Everytime he cracks his neck it makes me want to punch the t.v. His neck even cracks when he doesn't move. The sound editing and regular editing are terrible, it feels like some film class project with a bigger budget. I really like Kip Pardue and I'm questioning if I should see anything else he's in from now on. The only thing that is somewhat decent about this movie is Crispin Glover. Thats all I have to say.

so blockbuster will be carrying this film?
i'm excited to see it because of Bijou

reply

I was excited for Bijou and Crispin. Unfortunately Crispin was NOT good. He was annoying. Specifically the pacing of his monologues...truly gut-wrenching.
And I whole-heartedly agree with you on the neck cracking. I was getting massively irritable as the minutes dragged on. The movie became more and more incomprehensible throughout. I was pleased with myself initially for sticking it out but then I realized that I could have been doing ANYTHING else but watching that movie and I would have had a better time. Bijou had the only consistenly well-acted performance in the movie. Everyone keeps referencing the gore and I felt "meh" about it. No shock. Not disturbing. Poorly edited, directed and acted. The only shock I have is from how the user rating score reached higher than a 2.

How was it incomprehensible? Pay attention!

The neck cracking was supposed to make you feel irritated. It had me squirming in my seat for god's sake. And the jaw popping, oh my! This character has some serious problems, and Kip does and amazing job portraying that. By the end of the movie, you know why.

I really enjoyed this movie. It is what it is, I don't know why you try to look past it.

Striderh,
Did you get the plot ? I watched it with the commentary and without. In the commentary, they kept saying watch for the reveals in the plot. Did you pick
up on all the exposition and plot themes ? Do you understand the connections
between the Clark Kent type character, the old Merlin type character, the magician and the doctor? Did every thing place in the hotel rooms? Any help you can give, will be appreciated. I'm just trying to piece the real reality together.

I agree; I found a lot of things in this movie annoying -- from the editing, to the neck-popping, to the flashing backgrounds, to the acting (especially Crispin Glover), to the basic storyline, to the CGI gore effects.

Meh, it was a big waste of time.

Least much better than that good for nothing Saw 3 and 4 or hostel. The ending was very confusing indeed.

I agree that Jeffery Combs was very underused, but I really though Crispin Glover nailed the character. He was clearly supposed to be somewhat annoying and long-winded, as bad magicians are. It's supposed to be misdirection so that he could let the drugs set in. As far as the neck tattoo, it was supposed to show how, even though the main character was clean-cut and together, he had a different life at one time that was darker (see also the whole confusion with the wife as a whore). I have to say that it was a very well-made movie and I enjoyed it quite a bit, especially because it was way different than I could have imagined (fusing noir and horror elements seamlessly) and the plot was very intriguing and interesting. Also, I wouldn't ever consider the original a classic in any sense. Lewis' two classics are 2000 Maniacs and Blood Feast, the others are just fun. This is way better.

Original Wizard of Gore is hardly a classic. Its basically 80 minutes of awful, flat, droning from Montag with a few interesting deaths thrown in for you to fast forward to.
And, I know its a independent movie, probably funded by the director himself; but couldn't they have found an actor...or maybe someone competent with make-up, to work on Montag? The whole production was likened to a High School film project, with the one real highlight being the very creative metal-press death.

The Wizard of Gore was the FIRST MOVIE EVER that I didn't finish watching. I stopped after half an hour. Pointless piece of garbage.

I agree this movie sucks dude. No offense, but I found it to be terrible. This movie was just boring as hell. I've had more fun cleaning out my cat box. I'm dead serious too.

This is the first movie I've ever seen Bijou in where she's not a wild child, and I have to say it really was kind of boring to see her be so "mature". I like when she's fun and crazy. The only good thing about the film for me was seeing Crispin Glover and Joshua Miller together again. As a huge fan of River's Edge that was very exciting to me. Kip Pardue did nothing for me in this movie- I don't dislike him as an actor- he was great in Rules of Attraction and But I'm a Cheerleader, but in this movie, in my opinion, he just had no charisma at all.

This movie missed the mark completely. As an appreciator of H.G. Lewis' movies, I wasn't necessarily excited about seeing this movie but watched it nonetheless. I think Crispin nailed the Montag role at least... Aside from the gore gags in the original, the dialogue of Montag's was the only entertaining part of that film and it works here in the remake as well. But holy crap! This movie was SO boring. As aforementioned, the neck cracking garbage was overdone, the flashy alterna-background graphics were distracting, cgi-gore is a huge foul in a movie with any ties to the Godfather of Gore, Lewis, so shame on these filmmakers for going that route. The storyline, albeit somewhat inspired, failed to capture my imagination... I think this might be in part due to the lead character, who was impossible for to connect with. Props for trying something slightly original with the noir influence thrown in, but overall it failed miserably.

I thought this was pretty awful myself and I usually try to find some enjoyment in horror movies, despite how terrible they are. This one had very little. I didn't eveb like Bijou, and I normally adore her. I honestly believe the best part of this film was the song that played during the credits at the end.
