Christmas is for family.

Hogswatchnight is for friends.

Dec 21st my friends and I invite everyone over for an evening of watching the Hogfather, and I make the best damn barbecue pork in the state. We drink beer and depending on the number of people that run out we do a $5 Yankee Swap.

For a couple of years it was actually my favorite holiday.

Sometimes, Just Sometimes, the joke's on you.

Yup, families are different. That's what our family does.

probably 2010. when netflix had it for streaming. Usually 3 movies I watched for Christmas. Miracle on 34th St, Scrooge (1951) and It's a Wonderful Life. Then this tale about what the real supposed war on Christmas came into my viewing. War on Belief vs $$. Whatever you believe in. Belief dies we all die. It has it's comedic spin thru but it's a serious take. And the music where emotions throw is well put. So now it's tradition. Whoever is under the suit... Funniest but truest section of the movie is the rich shop owner crying because someone is actually doing what Christmas means. To give is better than to receive. Whether it's toys or life. (which is in the second part. a Homeless child who is on the list to die. Gets a second chance.. because Death is between jobs. There's a bit of emotion in this one. Who knew one day Michelle Dockery would be everywhere but still love her in this role. So belief is killed when it's someone else they recognize under the suit and the cards show daddy instead of the Hogfather. So whatever one believes. Just keep believing whether something tries to prove one wrong or not. I'd say my belief in a Santa somewhere went up quite good after this movie. Not in a laugh here. He has to exist. End of story.. Now I'm streaming off netflix via a tablet plugged into a tv. Do wish the BD would leave Germany and come to the USA... Colour of Magic is on BD in Germany and UK. But Hogfather is still only Germany Region B (which may play on a laptop if you've set your drive to Region B or do something naughty. )

Watching it right now! I like the sound of your tradition though. Sounds like fun. Tonight is my first viewing but I think I'll be making it an annual tradition from now on.
