first, its based off a book? what is the name of the book i would love to read it.
and also, it may just be because I couldnt hear what the old Ann was saying most of the time, but whatever happened to Ann and Harris? why werent they together what happened between them?
It is based on "Evening" by Susan Minot.
In the book, Harris is engaged to another woman, and on the weekend when he meets Ann, he finds that his fiancee is pregnant. It is quite clear that Harris considers his liaison with to be a meaningless fling.
One of the many flaws of the movie is that they don't give any plausible reason that Ann and Harris don't have an ongoing relationship.
That was my huge question about the movie, too. Why didn't Ann and Harris get together / marry ? Wish they'd explained it in the movie, but thanks joanre101 for giving the novel's explanation.
shareI think the explain it in passing a couple of times up front when Vanessa Redgrave says at least twice that she and Harris murdered someone. I think the utter shock and guilt of Buddy's death through both Ann and Harris into such a state of trauma that they couldn't face one another.
