But who killed Buddy?

It is totally unanswered - of course one can say it was Ann and Harris, but that's too cheap...

Older Ann was just senile. She didn't physically 'kill' Buddy. She just blames herself for barking at Buddy that led to him leaving the group and getting hit by a car.

Whatever. Senile, delirious, just plain wacky. You get the point.

The place was so remote(one road in/out) it had to be someone leaving the wedding party! Probably drunk...hey lets take our clothes off and jump off a cliff! Now THATS a wedding reception! yee haa

It was a hit and run, although based on their location, I think it had to have been somebody at the wedding party. And I think the scene would have been handled better if we knew that it was just a stranger and didn't necessarily know that they killed a person.
I agree with besctu that we should be viewing it as Buddy killed Buddy. It was his own actions that led to his death and not to blame it on somebody else. So just a nameless hit and run, but it was Buddy's fault.

Very good point. That makes sense to me now. I knew that they didn't physically kill him due to Ann hearing a noise just before going into Harris's house. However, I never understood why she thinks she and Harris killed him. Thanks!

She felt responsible because Buddy was following Harris and her,(the two people he loved the most,) into the woods when he was struck by the car. Granted, you realize Buddy is a meltdown waiting to happen, for his passions have become his enemy and drinking has taken over his life. Point being, it wasn't Ann fault, yet is easy to understand her guilt.

reply

This guy had a serious drinking problem, and no one can be blamed for his demise other than himself.

... and, of course, she figures if Harris and her had been there with the others, Harris could've saved Buddy's life. Of course, she figures it wouldn't have happened in the first place if she'd had kept an eye on him.

lol, just plain wacky, that's funny...

Interestingly, Buddy references The Great Gatsby only a few scenes before he dies. In that novel, one of the main characters involved in a love triangle was also killed by an oncoming car while walking in the street to get to her lover...

Yeah a tad heavy handed there

Can someone do something about this thread appearing on the main page? I came here to read info about the film and now it's been spoiled by inconsiderate posters who don't even care to think that some people don't want the plot spoiled for them in topic subjects!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Delete this thread or at least change the name for God's sake.

I agree-- I'll still watch the film but I'm guessing a lot of the dramatics of the story is ruined for me now.
PLEASE be careful next time and make the subject like, for example, "a question about Buddy (SPOILERS!)"
I understand how easily a mistake like this can be made, but please please be careful.

I'm sorry but that's ridiculous. People don't come to the message board section unless they've finished a movie. If you do than it's your own fault.

I just saw the movie, a little boring but interesting too. I agree it was Buddy's fault. He was stumbling drunk along a remote area and got hit. I think the person was a stranger who panicked and drove off. Buddy was stupid to make his friends think he drowned. If I was Ann and Harris I would be upset too.
