I love this movie

I understand this film is not everyone's cup of yea. However, the first time I watched the movie (about 6 years ago) and I really connected with both the characters of Buddy and Ann.
I feel like people compare this movie to the notebook. And I have to say that besides being love stories and told in flashbacks to a time that the audience doesn't really have a good grasp of. With that I have to say that I like Evening much more than The notebook. I always found the notebook to be overwrought and heavy handed. The plot and emotions always feel force fed and very shallow in the notebook. Whereas, here in Evening there were moments that it would veer into melodrama but would it never seemed like I was being slapped in the face with the expectation that I am supposed to buy this epic romance between two characters.

I agree this movie is not everyone's cup of tea. I loved it when I saw it. I loved the dancing scene with Hugh Dancy and Claire Danes at the beginning.

It is a nice period movie. The sad part is Vanessa lost her daughter not long after the film. I loved the location shots. Was it filmed in Newport?
