The names of the aliens who signed the floor

Okay, so through the power of pause I was able to figure out most of them but I remain beguiled by some. Here's what I recognized: Spock, Nessie, Kalel, Stitch, Mew, Mork, Marvin, Klatu, Wall-E, Sue, Bender, Eva, Santa, Zeus, Hal, Sully, E.T. Anyone know the rest and where they hail from?

reply

Haha--that's cute. I didn't bother to pause there, but should have.

reply

Riddick: from Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick.

Hal 9000: from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Gojira: original Japanese name of Godzilla, the King of Monsters.

Marvin: the Martian from Looney Tunes.

Yoda: from Star Wars.

Zim: from Invader Zim.

Ripley: from Alien.

Mork: from Mork and Mindy.

Scully and Mulder: from The X-Files.

Bender: from Futurama.

Abe: I'm not sure about this one, but I think he's Abe from the Oddworld games.

WallE: from the Pixar movie.

Goku: Dragon Ball.

Paul: It's interesting to see this one on there since there's a number of similarities between this movie and Paul. I guess this means they saw Paul before they finished this movie, but the similarities are so essential to the plot that I'm sure they must've been written in already by the time they saw it.

Ratchet: A reference to Nurse Ratchet for all the kids who love One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Or possibly a reference to the Autobot medic on Transformers who I think was named after Nurse Ratchet :)

Kerrigan: This is another one that I'm not sure about. My first thought was of the Legendary Frog's character (Flash Animation on Newgrounds.com) but it seems to me I once heard there was a video game character with the same name but I can't remember the game.

Ackbar: Another one I'm not sure about, but I think there's a character with this name in Star Wars. There's also an Ackbar in 8-bit Theater who repeatedly rips off the main characters by selling them worthless items, but the Star Wars reference seems more likely.

Venom: from Spider Man

Leeloo: Not sure, though it sounds familiar.

George Alien: This one I don't recognise at all.

Gonzo: from the Muppets.

Zeus: The head of the Greek gods. Or is there a Sci Fi Zeus that I'm unaware of?

Jiminy: Cricket, from Pinnochio? Seems like an odd reference, but I guess he looks kind of like an alien.

Dr. Hephaestus: Hephaestus was the Greek god of the forge, but he was a smith, not a doctor. Anybody know a Dr. Hephaestus?

Zod: Kneel before Zod! General Zod from Superman.

Lion-0: Another one I'm not sure about. My first thought is of the Lion mecha from Voltron, but I think they were designated by colour, not numbers.

Thing, The: The Thing from Another World, produced by Howard Hawks in 1951. Remade, and frankly improved, by John Carpenter in 1982. Both are based on a story by John Campbell called Who Goes There? that I fully intend to read some day. There's also a more recent movie that I've heard is a prequel but haven't seen yet. I'm sure they were referencing one or both of the classics, though.

Johnny 5: from Short Circuit

Stitch: from Lilo and Stitch.

Doc: from this movie.

Spock: from Star Trek

E.T.: The Extraterrestrial.

ALF: Alien Life Form. Also a sitcom from the eighties.

Chewie: from Star Wars.

Nessie: I'm thinking this is the Loch Ness Monster, but that doesn't seem very Sci Fi. Also, why would they include Nessie, but not Ogopogo, the lake monster of Kelowna, which is not too far from Vancouver.

Sue: I have no idea.

Greedo: did not shoot first! From Star Wars.

Maya: Another one I don't recognise.

Zartog: Don't know.

Zaphod Beeblebrox: Don't know.

Klaatu: from The Day the Earth Stood Still, another great movie from the director of Westsyde Story, The Sound of Music, The Sand Pebbles The Setup, The Haunting, and the Curse of the Cat People, to name just a few. Unfortunately, he also directed Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Kal El: Superman's birth name.

Thurman and IO: from this movie.

Eva: I'm not sure about this one, but perhaps it's short for Evangelion, of the Neon Genesis variety.

Beta Ray Bill: Don't know.

Gazoo*: The Great Gazoo, from the Flintstones.

Yogurt and Barf: from Spaceballs.

Odo: I'm not sure, but isn't there a character with this name on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine? I've never
actually seen the show.

Mew: from Pokemon.

Bucky O'hare: A cartoon that I think was from the early nineties.

Arthur: I think there's a few characters named Arthur, but I'm not aware of any aliens by that name. However, I'm reading a book of Celtic mythology that claims King Arthur and his Knights were originally gods. They were reduced to mortal heroes to accommodate Christianity and their stories have been passed down in that form. Somehow I doubt that that's what they're referring to here though, so does anybody else have any ideas?

Tinkey Winkey: Not sure, though it sounds familiar.

Santa: My god, so that's why I haven't gotten any presents under my tree since I moved out of my parents house! Santa's been locked up in Area 51! Damn that General Shanker! Santa's an elf, not an alien!

Gozer and Zuul: from Ghostbusters.

Than: Don't know.

Wicket: from Star Wars

That's all the ones I could read. It's kind of an interesting list, and I'd love to see what other people have to say about the entries on it, especially the ones I couldn't identify or was unsure about.

reply

"Ratchet"--the direct reference is surely Transformers there, since the nurse's name is spelled "Ratched".

"Ackbar" re Star Wars, definitely.

The rest that you're not familiar with or aren't sure about are the same for me.

reply

beta ray bill is from the thor comicbook

lion-o is the thundercats' leader

zaphod beeblebrox is from the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy

tinky winky is the purple teletubby

zartog is from space chimps

kerrigan is from starcraft

reply

Leeloo: The alien woman from The Fifth Element.

Zaphod Beeblebrox: President of the galaxy, two heads, three arms. From the immensely popular Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. How did you miss this one?

Arthur is likely Arthur Dent, also from HGTTG.

Odo def. from ST:DS9.

Tinkey Winkey is a character from Teletubbies.

reply

The Thing and Sue could be references to the Fantastic Four. The others I had answers for (i.e, Lion-O, Eva, Ackbar, Kerrigan and Tinkey Winkey) have already been submitted by other posters.

reply

I think you are correct about Sue (Storm) from the Fantastic Four. In the movies she was played by Jessica Alba.

The Thing could be from Fantastic Four or The Thing movies. In The Thing, it was an alien creature found frozen in Antarctica.

reply

I think Abe is the water-alien from Hellboy.

reply

Could Leeloo be a reference to Milla Jovovich's character in The Fifth Element? That's the first one I thought when I heard it...

reply

Also, Eva: besides being the first woman according to the Bible it's also the way Wall-E calls Eve in the Pixar movie, at least that's how it sounds when he pronounces her name for the first time...maybe a little bit of a stretch but...

reply

Ratchet: Ratchet and Clank video game series.

Kerrigan: From Starcraft video game series.

Ackbar: Admiral "It's a Trap" Ackbar

LeeLoo: Leeloo Dallas multipass. Fifth Element.

Lion-o: Thundercats

Beta Ray Bill: Is a marvel comic character. A ugly copy of Thor.

reply

Here's a couple of more

Moya - name of spaceship from the Farscape TV series

EVA - is the female robot who Wall-E falls in love with

Dr. Hephaestus may be from the Roger Corman movie Battle beyond the stars

Where the floor is seen later in the movie there is an Egyptian symbol for either the eye of Ra or Horus (I can never tell which is which)

Sue - three possibilities (any of which could work) - Jane Lynch(voice of Io) plays Sue on Glee, Sue was one of the ghosts in Ms. PacMan, and of course there's Sue, the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

reply

Interesting! ty :) Wasn't Sue the name of the giant woman in Monsters v. Aliens? just a guess...

reply

Kinda. Her name was Susan.

reply

a battle beyond the stars reference. this has to be an ubernerd of unparalleled proportions. I can't remember the names well but I do remember the lizard man having the girl tied up for storage as a future meal and the white guys on the circular saucer ship and the old drunken cowboy. God, I got to find this online now and cheese out.

This is probably Stargate reference, since Ra and Horus are aliens in this television series.

reply

Wow I guess according to some people on these forums, that's "ripping off" other sci-fi films.

reply

I was pretty much assuming that "Ratchet" was the from the Ratchet Clank video games... A series which shares a lot of similarities to the movie.

Me Grimlock kick butt!
