How did they manage to cross borders so easily?


Maybe it's just hard to understand, looking back from the perspective of the post-9/11, post-7/7, post-Madrid era with our modern computer networks and telecommunications, but it's shocking that these known terrorists were able to get in and out of the country.

And where were they getting the money to finance all of these operations? The film showed a few bank robberies, but it seemed they were much better financed than just from what they took in in bank robberies.

Back in those days, borders were controlled just by people really. And they are easy to deceive, get bored, etc. pp.. I remember driving the Transit from West Berlin back to to West Germany as a kid, and crossing the border back from East to West, there were multiple times when even the Vopos didn't care one bit to check the trunk e.g.. And coming up with false papers was no big deal in the 70ies, certainly not for the RAF.
