Did I hear that right?

Sheldon hurt his back carrying a pound of noodles? A whole pound?

Looked like someone either left a banana peel or spread some oil on the floor! He did it to himself by running! He "ain't" that young anymore; neither am I!  The moment he feels better, he pulls a maneuver like that? Lucky to be as good as he is to bounce back and win challenge!  

At the beginning of the episode, he was talking about being in pain from carrying the noodles. Then he goes for an MRI. The slip and fall happened later.

I know! I just remember seeing a video of him running; not sure if it was this week or next! I just thought it strange to be running when he obviously has disc problems! 

It sounded to me like said pan of noodles, which could be pretty big and heavy. When it comes to your back, sometimes the slightest thing can throw it out. One wrong turn or bend and there it goes.

I wrenched the hell out of mine a couple years ago making the bed. Something about the way I reached over to grab the sheet to give it a yank messed me up and I was laid back for a couple days. It was some of the worst pain I've ever experienced besides a burst appendix.

"Pan of noodles" sounds right. My damn ears have betrayed me again!

And yes, one wrong move can cause a lifetime of back problems. I was bending over a printer at work one day and sneezed. My lower back was never the same since.

Sheldon should not be carrying anything over 10 - 15 lbs right now.

Yup. I was working at a book store. I knelt down and slightly twisted to reach the shelf. They had to call my family to come and carry me home. I was laid up for a week and was never the same.

Remember he also has a history of back surgery for a ruptured disc. Means he has old scar tissue that can flare up over the simplest things and hurt just as bad as the original injury.

I'm a nurse on a post-op spine unit and it's extremely rare to only have one surgery in your life. My patients consistently have 3, 4, 5, even 8 surgeries in their adult lives.

yeah and I can imagine how being a chef can be very taxing on the body. Very physical. So over a period of time the injuries can probably build up and/or get worse. Especially if you're moving around fast bending awkwardly, carrying hot, heavy, and unstable things.

Watching this afternoon's repeat of the episode, it seems like Sheldon could lose a ton of weight. He might need a walker in ten years. I've been immersed in dancing for a majority of my life, so my whole body is muscular and toned. I know muscles can help maintain your posture.

He needs to start a program, eventually. One lighter in exertion at first. He's borderline obese, if not, already obese.

He says he eats rice with everything! It bloats me up too! My doctor has told me to go gluten-free so white rice, potatoes, and breads need to be cut! It's hard! 

Sheldon's back injury occurred before the slipping on the floor or carrying the pan of noodles. It was a few episodes back. He got some treatment after that and mainly some very strong painkillers so he wasn't aware of the pain when he was pushing himself, running around. That is pretty dangerous but he wants to play the game and doesn't want to just hang back. He will probably pay for it later.

Losing weight will help with the balancing, too he needs in the kitchen because wasn't it carrying something heavy that caused the slipped disc?
Cutting out gluten is tough but worth it if you feel better. My biggest interest is health, so I am always cutting out anything that may be detrimental. There is no way you'll find me subjecting myself to what these cheftestantts do on a daily basis!
