Jude Law was poor casting

Jude Law was far from likeable in this film and is not really a leading man. He is smarmy and comes across as insincere. Jude Law does not strike one as sincere, honest or even a little quirky which would seem a little more fitting for a Wong Kar Wai film.

I feel the film would have done better with a different actor cast, it would have been great to see Takeshi Kaneshiro or Tadanobu Asano cast opposite Norah Jones.

The reason for those casting choices is since Wong went with a foreigner in a strange place why not use an Asian actor. Also visually they would have looked good with Norah jones.

The Asian actor idea is pretty good. But I still think Law was good for the role. He seemed pretty sincere to me....he just wasn't rough enough around the edges for me. Plus a Brit in a running a random cafe. It's plausible of course....but not every likely.

Yes I agree! Jude Law is clearly a bad choice for this role he just doesn't pull it off at all.

Also that accent was ABYSMAL!! I heard his accent change when he was explaining the stories of the keys and backtracked the DVD just to double check that my ears weren't deceiving me then he mentions that he's from Manchester and I realise that he is attempting a Mancunian accent. If someone does a bad accent you can usually guess which one they are attempting but you wouldn't be able tell that this is meant to be a Mancunian accent if he hadn't mentioned that's where he's from. A bad Northern English accent? Yes. A Mancunian accent? Not remotely.

But accent aside it really stands out that he's a bad choice for this role for reasons mentioned above. This coming from someone who actually likes Jude Law.

Yeah it sounded more Yorkshire, he wouldn't have been out of place on Emmerdale Farm. It was strange because at the start of a scene he was putting it on really strongly and then it disappeared into the scene as he seemed to forget all about. And then the following scene it would hit you again.

I'm confused as to why he was doing an accent at all, I have no idea on the significance of the character having to come from Manchester.

"Please don't eat me! I have a wife and kids. Eat them!"

cant see how that would work, it was aimed at an american (caucasian) audience.

i am watching it now, and i cant fault Jude Law.....none of the parts were asian parts

America is full of Asian Americans or an Asian actor with his or her own business would be believable.

Even Tony Leung would have been great casting.

I thought Jude Law was poor casting also. The person who I think would have been suitable for his part is Paul Nicholls as he actually is from Manchester and looks like a younger version of Jude.

It doesn't have to be from Manchester. Just change the script a little bit, make him simply an American. Easier.
