HORRIFIC VOMIT

Being a HUGE WKW fan and having lived in Hong Kong and spent hours walking the streets to find scenes and shots from his films I was so excited to hear about a new film coming out.

I watched it.

I lied.

I actually only watched 22 minutes of it and thought I was going to throw up.

It was the biggest pile of *beep* I have ever seen. Forced. Awkward. Like a pathetic art school student trying to make a WKW film.

Jude Law was Horrific... as much passion as a mannekin, the less said about norah jones the better... I didn't even see up till natalie portmans character but she annoys the living tits off me so I dont regret it.

What a horrible mistake. He is the laughing stock of the movie industry at the moment.. the next one better be a corker.

I am stuck on Tsai Ming Liangs films at the moment.. "what time is it there"is a masterpiece.. check it out.

So happy to see this thread!

What the world does NOT need is another 90-minute Jude Law hearts Jude Law fitfest. I am so tired of that I know, I'm just so goddamn good looking aren't I when I pout self-consciously and twinkle my eyes and give the impression that I don't even realise it when infact I do do do really and I know you all want to shag me!

Aside from that:
1. Elizabeth travels all the way to wherever to get enough money to buy a car and drive home?
2. Despite having written her life story back to Jeremy they are incapable of talking about any of her 'adventures' and simply default to the last time they saw each other and she stuffed her face with pie?
3. Jude Law has done eff all with his life but come to New York to work in a cafe that no-one really goes to apart from girls he's a. shagged or b. wants to?
4. Natalie Portman agreed to do the film? Loha!

To be honest all of this irreleveant. The real crime is by far the unacceptable discrepancies in Jude's Manchester accent. Honestly I wish anyone reading this was in the cinema with me because everyone there at some point had a proper giggle at his expense, which was actually quite rewarding.

Infact if you wanted a quick lesson in the top English accents then this is your teach yourself DVD! London by way of Yorshire before settling on Manchester? Go back to drama school!!

Jude Law ruined my movie. Thank god for Portman - best fruit of a bad pie.

Absolutely. This film is a disgrace. When Jude Law started telling the story about someone from Manchester I didn't realise he was talking about himself as I had no idea he was supposed to be from Manchester. I hate Jude Law.

Living and Hong Kong and being a WKW fan doesn't give you the excuse to watch 22 mins of it and crap about the movie. If you were really a fan you'd watch the whole darn thing and figure it wasn't that bad after all. Sure its not his best work and its probably his worst work but its far from being horrific otherwise it wouldn't have a 7/10 rating, you obviously need to check your tastes in movies and please take them seriously and finish your movies or no one is going to take you seriously.

I agree with original poster, this movie blew. You don't HAVE to watch all of it if you don't like the first twenty minutes. I shut it off and around then as well, it was boring.

reply

I watched the whole movie. It was really bad all the way through. I can't express how much I hated this movie because I think profanity isn't accepted here.

reply

redchief....sorry to hear you hate Jude Law. I'm sure he's crushed....

I, on the other hand, LOVE Jude. He can do NO wrong in my book! NONE!!!

You're so wrong. What the world needs is more Jude Law lovefests.

What makes me laugh is that 1-3 on yourlist would be accepted without question if this was filmed in China, with Tony Leungh, etc.

Some things just don't work when you watch it in your own language.

Read the things on your list. That is all classic WKW!

Part of the appeal of a foreign film is that it is a foreign film. You don't know if the lines are being read realistically or if the actors are even that good.

Thank you gsybe. Those were my thoughts exactly. Well said.

I agree, but I think Jude Law and the other principles were trying their best. Without a script to work from, the film went nowhere. Ms. Jones was mediocre, though, must say . . .

This movie is bad in every way imaginable and has no reason to exist. I won't go into details because I wasted enough of my life on this senseless drivel so if there are any defenders out there, don't ask me to justify my opinion.

omg, I thought that I was the only one I hated it..
It was sooo boring I felt asleep during this movie :)

First I was really happy to see it.. J. Law, R. Weisz, N.Portman - it was so obvious it could have been a great film but NO!

reply

Why couldn't this have just been a pleasant twenty minute short? Then it would've been at least bearable, probably almost enjoyable.

I would've happily walked out within 22 minutes myself had my date not been somehow enjoying it.

If you haven't already done so, feel free to avoid this crappy flick. You're missing absolutely nothing.

great thread. i love wkw: in the mood for love, happy together, fallen angels—all amazing. blueberry burps felt like a cheap parody of his own style.

I'm astounded that this film has a 7.0 rating. The writing was unbelievably juvenile - I imagine there are loads of 12-year-old girls out there who would see this movie and find it deeply moving.

When I saw this film, the audience was audibly bored. One man fell asleep and snored, while other people actually started carrying on quiet conversations with each other. I could hear one woman groan every time the Norah Jones character (and don't even get me started on NJ's 'acting', with her full repertoire of two - count 'em, two! - types of facial expressions) offered one of her pithy 'insights into life'.

MBN was laughably bad.

sad but true....

Can someone put me out of my (or possibly their!) misery by telling me what WKW stands for? Everyone else seems to know, I've missed out somewheres....

They're being cute by spelling the director's initials in the order they'd would be in whichever Asian country that he hails from.

I hadn't checked this forum for a while but am re-assured by the opinions expressed on this thread. I posted under the heading 'A terrible film' at the beginning of February and got knocked back by supporters of the film. I suspect that the shift in mood has resulted from it being shown more widely, particularly in the UK, and the balance being less influenced by US contributors.
