PATHETIC, absolutely !!

David Benioff should be forced in the same way to shoot Tobey Maguire's head !!

i have watched the original Danish movie with Connie Nielsen, and while this movie is pretty much an exact duplicate, the few changes made make the movie SO MUCH WORSE !

ALL the key scenes where the characters are challenged have been modified and end up being less convincing.

WARNING: ALL spoilers below

1) the scene when Jake returns the car and finds out for the first time of Tobey's 'death' - probably not changed too much, but the slight difference in dialogue is that much jarring compared to the original that it fails drastically.

2) the original also has a better scene in building up to the 'kiss of infidelity' between Jake and Natalie.

3) *THE* scene of Tobey's transgression has more back story and puts a BETTER perspective on how distressing his forced murder was. (not to mention the act of forcing him was also more believable than just a terrorist screaming with a gun to his head)

4) finally, the moment where Tobey snaps is so lame with blatant exposition of "do you know what i had to do there ?" - seriously, watch the original and you'll be more accepting of the breakdown happening.

5) and right to the confrontation with the brother that leads to the cops coming - WHY would Jake call the police NOT knowing what would happen yet ? the original has the police being called AFTER Jake reaches the home and sees Tobey going crazy.

in other words, if we are to judge this movie based on what it CHANGED from the original - then it's an ABSOLUTE ABYSMAL result. (Benioff needs to DIE - after Troy, and then the DRIVEL of Wolverine - now THIS ??!?!)

i'm not sure how i would have reacted if i saw the two movies in the reverse order, i REALLY REALLY recommend anyone who hasn't seen the original movie yet to DO SO - then we could compare notes !

glad you enjoyed it !

i like Natalie Portman, and Jake Gyllenhaal - so i tell myself that David Benoiff is the reason for this abomination.

it's like Hollywood find this gem of a movie, but rather than promote it and let the original creators reap the benefit and credit, they have to regurgitate it and stick their own label on it so that they then get full credit for what ends up to be an inferior product !

yep, they hit 'bottom' alright - the bottom LINE !

ever since the 'MBA' became so revered to the point of over-estimation in their value.

cinema is supposed to be Art; but these MBAs graduated and then set about turning the "movie industry" into a production assembly line where original creativity is UNNECESSARY, you just need a hack-writer, and the tried & tested formulae, and then aiming for a "successful franchise" which they can then milk for many years with minimal additional expenses after the first movie's investment outlay.

i still don't understand why many "movie fans" need to quote Box Office figures like it means ANYTHING to a movie's quality.

it used to be that movies brought entertainment excellemce which television could not afford to do, *now* - even movies "can't afford to be good" - and it's television that's producing the gems for visual story entertainment, it's MUCH better infact because a series of epsiodes allows for deeper character development which a 2 hour movie could not delve too much into.

movies have become such a "waste of time" now, nothing but extravagant visual effects to showcase the latest "awe-inspiring" technology, but placed in the hands of such mediocre story-telling talent (*cough*-Michael-Bay-*cough*).

in effect, going to the movies has as much value-added significance to ones' life as just buying a bag of popcorn and flushing it down the toilet in your own home; you save time, transport cost, and get a much smaller carbon footprint even !!

sigh...
