How the hell did she remain calm, i would have freaked out and nothing would have been same.

Because she knew something really horrible must have happened to him to turn him into the mess he was, that explanation simply made sense.

and besides the last thing he really needs is his wife to overreact when he is in such a weakened state maybe she is shocked on the inside but she needed to keep it together be supportive as best as she could
