Portman had it in her contract that she be called beautiful at least twice during the film. That's the only way she would do the gig.

LOL Gq, sounds about right. Count me is as another who doesn't see the point of the constant "pretty" comments about Grace. Sure I guess she's cute, but compared to what? Portman is just no great beauty at all (IMO). That, and the fact I saw an interesting independent film with her, Jude Law and Julia Roberts called "Closer" where the characters go guffaw over Portman's so called beauty too.

Meh, I'm just not seeing it.

Natalie has one of the most mesmerizingly pretty faces I've ever seen. I can watch Closer over and over again just for all of the closeup shots of her beautiful face.

I think it's probably true that it's to increase the sexual tension between she and Tommy. But in my mind, I thought it was because people were surprised that she's so pretty for A) being married to dorky-looking little Sam, and B) for being a mom of two girls, at least one of them in elementary school already (she does look quite young). That's probably just me though!

I found the emphasis on how "pretty" she is so laughable. She is not a great beauty. She is rather plain with a larger than average sized head, flat chest, and rather small boyish body. I mean, lets call a spade a spade here. She's "cute" at most. The nurse Tommy brought home was prettier.

I think she's more pretty and cute than beautiful-like Meg Ryan. Or she's quietly beautiful with delicate features, not in your face beautiful like Angelina Jolie or Liz Taylor. Natalie is cute, but Angelina and Liz are not.

Thank you! If Natalie Portman is not pretty then I should never show my face in public because i wouldn't even rank on this beauty scale that obviously exists in an alternate universe.
By the way she is beyond amazing in Black Swan. She deserves an Oscar.

Natalie Portman is a cutie. Not gorgeous, certainly not drop dead gorgeous. She hasn’t been as good looking as she once was in the Star Wars films IMO. She still is not the greatest actress I have ever seen. Keep in mind I have not seen Black Swan yet.

Exactly, that's all it was, would most of you react the same if it was Angelina, Halle or Jen Aniston? Come on, now. Natalie is very pretty and has a GORGEOUS smile, anyone see her in Thor or Black Swan? She is very pretty! The comments about her looks are to add to Sam's paranoia.

Portman is pretty. Actually I think she is goddess. But that's my opinion. Also, my opinion is she looks ugly in this movie. Just didn't do it for me as other Portman roles.

I rolled my eyes when the blonde lady came to family's house for dinner and was like "Omg she's so pretty". I was thinking Natalie Portman must of added those lines to the characters script just for reassurance that she is pretty, lol. I honestly think people who say she's an overrated beauty because I always found her average looking.
