Yes, MK8 is currently in development and is expected to be released in October 2008.

On MySpace, Frost is on my list of friends. She had a blog (or two) about the Next Gen of MK. She stated that we (the fans) can probably say "Good bye" to most of the old fighters in order to make room for as many new fighters as possible. It has been confirmed that only two classic fighters will return.

Can you guess who they are?

A new feature I would like to see is when the fighters use thier weapons, it would be cool if they got thier weapons knocked out of thier hands (like in MK4) or if the weapons actually broke. That would be awesome and it would make fights look a little more realistic.

i reckon scorpion will be definately in it cause he is what makes the franchise (get over here) and my other guess is either raiden, lui kang or sub zero

reply

Yep, the two classic fighters who are guaranteed to return are Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

Did you see Noob Saibot's ending? If not, it stated that Noob Saibot got into a fight with the original Sub-Zero. At the end of the fight, a new fighter emerged which was not the original Sub-Zero or Noob Saibot. I bet that fighter will be in the next gen game.

I bet Hsu Hao will also be back. Did you see his ending? If not, it stated that he over threw Shinnok and became the new ruler of the Netherrealm. That got me thinking that Hsu Hao will be back and possibly as a big boss.

Did you read the last thing I put on my last response (about how cool it would be if weapons actually broke).

If so...What do you think of that?

It's not going to go down so well, I'm sure of that. I'm sticking with the old chapter of MK.

on MySpace, Frost posted a bulletin that she is not dead, but may not be in MK8.

I sent her a comment saying that hopefully she (and other fighters I like) will be back.

She left me a comment on my page saying:

"I am not sure if you are aware of this or not, but only a few characters will be kept for MK8. Ed (the boss) is trashing our entire system and creating a darker and more gritty MK.
It is looking as if I will not be in MK8."

Maybe she'll appear in an upgraded/extended version of MK8. Hey, they've been doing extended/upgraded versions of the fighting games since MK3. (see below)

-Mortal Kombat 3/Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3/Mortal Kombat Trilogy/Mortal Kombat Advance (for GBA)/Ultimate Mortal Kombat (for DS)

-Mortal Kombat 4/Mortal Kombat Gold (for Sega Dreamcast)

-Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance/Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition (for GBA)

-Mortal Kombat Deception/Mortal Kombat Unchained (for PSP)

If not, maybe she'll appear either in MK9 or a new adventure game.

No doubt that this next installment of MK will be on exclusively for PS3, X-Box 360, and Nintendo Wii. I'm sure what Ed Boon has said that MK being the last of the old chapter, may be the same for the 6th Generation systems. I'd love to see though, just once for the next MK to squeeze one more title for PS2.

Apparently, they changed their minds because MK vs. DC Universe has no new fighters.
