Yes, our country is filled with people who are completely stupid. These are the ones who look to their candidates and ask who will give them the most "free" stuff. Hillary offered $5000 for all new born kids. Didn't get a lot of movement on that one. So.... Offer $1000 to EVERYONE for retirement!! If I'm voting and you will give $5k to babies (of which none are voters) or $1000 to the people who will actually pull the lever, what proposal do you think is more likely to gain traction...? It's SICK! Even republicans sometimes try to "out liberal" each other. Arnold just this week said republicans need to move to the center. What does that mean? Offer $500 rather than $1000???? This is insane! And don't get me started on Global Warming. Never have so many, been so sure, about something, with so little proof. Even those reading this who are now screaming at their computer screens have no proof. They simply take EVERYTHING that they know about this supposed global warming on faith. Science be damned........! And yes, I am educated - private high school, college... I'm an information junkie. I study everything. Still, I see zero evidence to suggest that my car is more responsible than the SUN for any possible global warming. I know. Not what you wanna hear. Sorry. The truth is hard.........

Although I don't completely agree that climate change is all our fault I also don't see the harm in cutting down emissions just incase it is true. What harm can it really do not to drive your car five minutes down the road and walk? It will give you a bit of exercise - the whole exercise thing is probably a big lie as well, right? - and possibly slow down the world's death.
A lot of countries these days have a problem with voting, but then that's surely the fault of the politicians and the way the governments work. It's all about points scoring rather than actually doing things that will truly revolutionise the way the country works.
One weeks it's AIDs, the next cancer, then getting troops out of warzones (which is bizarre, why have an army?), then global warming, what will be next? Space travel? Time travel?

But yeah, I agree it's pretty sad, but I don't really think it has to do with people being retarded or even dumb, they just obviously have messed up priorities.
What I think is even sadder is that no one seems to give a crap about voting when it isn't a presidential election year, or voting for representatives or issues involving their own community.
When I went to vote in 2004 there were 10 polling booths and there was a line to use them. When I went to vote last year (mostly to oppose a tax increase that would go toward building an unnecessary new jail) there were 4 polling booths and none of them were being used.
I think it's a lot more important to voice your opinion about taxes, the mayor or governor and laws being passed in your city, county or state, things that will probably affect you more on a day to day basis than the president of the entire country, who may not directly impact you for his entire term. (Unless of course you plan on committing a federal crime or joining the military.)

I love Canada and was ashamed at the latest voter turnout... but still think Canada is better than the States... sorry.... but now that you have Obama, things are looking up! In general, we think Bush is a tool but we are lovin' Obama... congrats on that!
