could be interesting...a lot of physical humor and miming i'm thinking... it could really go in either direction. it could be really good, or it could suck too, it really depends what they decide to do with the script i guess.

murphy needs to start caring about his movies again though...the second he starts caring about his movies, his career (which it should be said is hardly in any danger, even with meet dave, he;s still a very much in demand comedic actor who has a good track of opening many many movies that a lot of other people wouldn't ever be able to open.) anyways once he actually starts looking like he cares a lot about his career and not picking things out of a hat he'll be back to full power again

reply

You say that as if Eddie's in his 20's - Eddie already has a 30+ year career. And one of the highest grossing actors - If his career is over - He certainly made the most of it.

I really doubt it. The director hasn't made one good movie!

great concept, But it will come down to the script and directing

Glengarry Glen Ross 8/10
Real Genius 6/10
Harold and Kumar 2 6/10

Hardball was okay, and Varsity Blues I still think holds up. Although, yeah, considering Norbit, Meet Dave, and The Shaggy Dog were his last three efforts...yeah.

haha I read the plot and i was like "yeah that sounds awesome!! this is gonna be so good!" and then i saw eddie murphy's name..... cue the music: waa waa waaaaaaa. lol

Preeeecisely. I like to think Allison Janney can turn it around..

The Man was in Dreamgirls, it should have turned him around THEN.

Then he did Norbit.. and not only did he lose all credibility of earning a serious movie award of any kind, it really turned me away from Murphy. Even if the 4th Beverly Hills Cop comes to fruition, it'll take a lot for me to really want to see it.

Once again 'Norbit' was a funny film and a hit at the box office. There's nothing wrong with doing two types of films for two different audiences. 'Dreamgirls' works for the art crowd, 'Norbit' was for the mainstream audiences. It's called "diversity'.

Diversity... Isn't that an old wooden ship?

The guy has been around for over 25 years. He has been making box office hits for that time (and some duds). Even bagged an Oscar nomination a few years ago.

I doubt he cares about turning is career around, not while there are young actors ripping off his act.

Its that man again!!

reply

I agree. - Norbit was funny. And it was a good story for those who didn't think it was funny. Sometimes you have to watch a movie for the storyline and if you laugh let the comedy be a bonus.

It's like Metro. - People hated it because it wasn't funny, but it was an action flick! - And a pretty good action flick if you paid attention to the storyline - That's the movie that made me appreciate Micheal Rapaport as an actor.

It's strange how Murphy's career has gone. He's made some very good movies, like "48 hours" and "Bowfinger." He was nominated for an Academy Award for "Dreamgirls" only a few years ago. But right after that, he returned to making silly and poorly-received comedies. A good comedy needs a good script first and foremost. Even if the concept sounds interesting, a bad script will undo the best efforts of the most talented comedic actors. Murphy seems to rely too heavily on his own confidence as a performer. Taking a bad script, hiring a mediocre director and going for broke on the assumption you'll make it all work just doesn't cut it. Maybe he doesn't care about that. He might just have fun making these movies and figures he has enough success to last a lifetime anyway.

Moviegoers would probably prefer to see him do something worthy of his talents, though.

reply

The director also did Meet Dave and Norbit with Eddie, both were pretty poor, so I doubt this will any better.

I understand we all miss the Old Eddie, but "Turn is Career Around?"

Eddie has a fine career going - Believe it or not he's one of the highest grossing actors today. - I mean "Turn his career around" sounds like a Title for Chappelle's message board.

Just because they don't make movies we want to see doesn't mean that their career has failed.

I mean - people have been saying this about Eddie since "Metro" (which was a pretty good cop-action flick IMO) - And that was over 10 years ago. - If someone career takes that long to fall, then it's not falling at all. (Plus the fact he has 5 more projects in development according to IMDB) - And no strait to DVD sht like Eddie Griffin and 'real' failed actor/comedians.

Even David Spade joked that Eddie's a falling star. - (an alumni disses the best thing SNL ever produced) But Spade hasn't been funny since Chris Farley died.

"Dreamgirls" was his chance to turn his career around. He followed it up with "Norbit." He's done!

reply

Turn his career around? Eddie's already a comedy/movie legend. And as of today he's one of the highest paid actors. He's having a successful career.

Let's see... a movie that already has a 3.3/10 rating, is directed by someone who directs crappy movies, and has been banished to January (whatever that means anymore)- it'll surely make anyone forget he was nominated for an Oscar.

When a leader speaks, the reflection lies.

reply

Ratings and career are two different things. - Crappy is an opinion. - But as for his career the fact remains he's one of the highest paid actors period.

Well Tower Heist is meant to be a return to a more edgy Murphy and it seems he is moving away from the family films.

Its that man again!!

^^He looks great in Tower Heist, I haven't seen it yet but everyone I know has talked about how funny he is in there.
