a movie that relies on references

this movie basically relies on references, most of which the kiddies won't even get. i've only seen 10-ish minutes of this crapfest and i heard references to movies like Dawn of the Dead, The Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Harry Potter. Though they are sure to get those last two, but seriously even the first 2 were not funny.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAVE SOMEONE WHO WATCHES ALOT OF MOVIES AND WRITES A MOVIE INSTEAD OF THINKING DIFFERENTLY AND MAKING A MOVIE THAT BRINGS SOMETHING NEW TO THE TABLE
I MEAN IF YOU WANA MAKE JOKES AND REFERENCES SAVE IT FOR A ROBOT CHICKEN KIND OF SHOW NOT FOR A SHOW THAT POSES AS HAVING AN ACTUAL STORY ANDOTHER

i did the exact same this morning, i watch adult swim at night and so when i turn it on in the morning its still on cartoon network. First of all like me just say its changed so much from when i was a kid it scares me, but anyways I turn it on and i saw Doogal going on. I'd seen stuff about this movie and so I thought I'd sit and watch a little bit. Within the first 5 minutes of watching they've spouted out about 100 movie references. I actually started laughing, not because they were that funny but because I doubt any child watching this would get some of the jokes. I guess maybe the Harry Potter one, but I don't think any kids gonna get the Matrix reference. I found this kinda cute at first, but then when they kept on doing it again, and again, and again I wanted to shoot them all! I changed the channel to find something else to watch...but there was nothing! Reluctantly I changed it back to Doogal hoping that maybe it would pick up, so I got to the end of the movie thinking well i guess this is were Doogal and the children of the world learn some great life lesson....no....this had to be the worst kids movie ever made, and I didn't even see the beginning!!!

It's actually only the US version that relies on references...there are none (as far as I can rememeber!) in the original UK release. Which also has better voice acting. And also 'Dougal' isn't called 'Doogal', which I don't think is even a name...

I actually have seen the U.K. and U.S. releases. There are references, albeit, very few that could actually damage the U.K. Version.

I will be honest to say, how surprising is it to hear Dylan say "Zeb's Dead, Baby. Zeb's Dead", in both the U.K. AND U.S versions? So that means some references were brought over too, when the movie came from over the pond to the U.S.

Not a great movie by any means, but Magic Roundabout is definitely better.

Even though this movie isn't really as horrible as people say it is, it did have waaaaay too many pop culture references. I mean, things aren't funny just because they existed (are you listening, Family Guy writers?!).

The more people I meet, the more I get why Jane Goodall spends all of her time with chimps.....
