Shocked by the poor reception here

Just watched it with my wife and kids and am shocked by the rough treatment here.

Does the movie have any scientific accuracy? No. None at all. I am always shocked that people feel the need to criticize movies, especially kids movies, for things like this. This is not a scientific movie. No one, not even a kid, is taking any scientific knowledge out of this film. Another poster somewhere complained that because of this movie kids think other stars are billions, instead of trillions, of miles away. For real? The kids that this movie is aimed at may not know what a billion is, probably don't know what a trillion is, and definitely don't understand powers of ten enough to understand how vast the difference between the two are. They are not remembering this fact, much less "learning" from it. An 8 year old hears "the planet was far away" and moves on.

But the fun factor is there. The inside jokes (the dog looks like the creature from 'Alien') are great. The more obvious humor will keep the kids laughing, and often the adults too. This is just a good time movie. It's simple. It's not deep. But it's fun and richly entertaining. It's not Pixar, but its much better than the run of the mill kids fare.

Well worded, judge kid animated movies by others of the same category, genre.

If an adult can enjoy it too so much the better. If not, its not (i.e. "Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs")

I agree with you.
I have followed this forum since the first trailer came out and I still don't get the hate.

You just have to keep in mind that anyone who doesn't like a film misses out on any enjoyment from it. There's nothing wrong with not liking an artwork but you are missing out on some entertainment if that's the case.

In other words it's a bad thing if you don't like a film. It might be the film's fault, it might be your fault. Either way you're missing out on a good time.

I agree with all of the above you guys just said. Planet 51 may be a great film, but the critics are just wasting their breath judging poorly on an innocent movie all for nothing! It's so sad!

I was kinda stunned too, I found the movie rather charming

I'm shocked at the reception as well.

Honestly, I think this movie is pretty cool. I work in the computer industry and I have a new found respect for people that make these movies. If people had any idea the amount of work that goes into animating a full length film like this, it's astronomical. Beyond the animation there's tons of voice and sound editing that needs to be done with tight budgets and deadlines.
You think the producers and artist's of this film like to come on here and read a bunch of negative crap about something they probably spent months, if not years, working on and dedicating their life to? I gave this movie a 10 just to bump up the score because it's got an unfair biased rating.

It's cool and funny with aliens. People that are trying to watch this for scientific facts need to get a life. Also, I think this movie is funny because it pays respect to how humanity was in the 1950's. The aliens lived like American's did. We had no clue what was in space, what other planets looked like on the surface, if aliens exist (we still don't know), etc. If you are looking for real scientific facts, get a book or watch the NASA Channel or Science Channel, not movies geared towards kids.

I think the problem with people nowadays is that there are too much sticklers for reality. Even when it comes to pure fantasy and fiction, they want that to be as realistic as it could be. I think it's better with the pure imagination driven fantasy rather than fantasy limited by reality, because when you bank on pure imagination, you aren't as limited and you could do some really cool things that, otherwise, you wouldn't be able to do if you wanted to adhere to real world logic.

Though, the whole "everything has to be based in real life logic" thing I see as nothing more than a trend. People tend to get tired of things that overstay their welcome.

I really enjoyed it - fun, funny, creative, visually very interesting, characters that were more engaging than those in many non-animation films, etc.

i agree you watched it too on c4 lol

I agree.

While there are a few things I had issues with,Rocks for rain, and a thousand stars which seems like a no brainer by just looking up, the rest of it was very funny and had a great sense of humor.

A lot of these critics just come to troll. I've always wondered about that. I slam movies as well but generally try to come up with reasons but rarely in kiddie movies.

I mean do they screech that there is no way CARS could talk?
Do they go on about how did the Car come into existence? Or anything like that?

Do they whine about fish talking and figuring things out?

Do they bich about talking donkeys?

Or talking airplanes? Or Lions? Or TOYS coming to life?

Or Bugs Bunny?

Or Superman for chrissake?

Either go with the flow on fantasy that has no real basis in reality and blast the obvious mistakes or inability to suspend your disbelief for live action movies but jeez Animated movies you bich about?

REALLY?

They who give up liberty to
obtain a temporary safety deserve
neither liberty or safety
