The Rover should not have (spoiler)

The Rover should not have smushed the cute little alien lizard. I realize it was supposed to be funny that it was not only ignoring the life forms, but deliberately getting them out of the way of its picking up rocks. They could have dealt with that some other way, however, like having it throw it farther away.

I agree. I seemed,,, out of place and uneccessary.

The planet was expected to be uninhabited, this includes lower and higher life forms. It was only programmed to deal with objects (i.e. rocks.) and interact with the human pilot. Aliens were similar enough for it to deal with them. the little critter wasn't something it knew how to deal with.

That was literally the only scene I laughed at, hell, I didn't even smile at anything else in this movie.

reply

well that was the joke, everyone probably expected rover to throw it away or maybe even befriend it but no they took a left field approach and had him just squish it to death.

très funny. :)

I agree and as well the little dude seemed to have some sort of intelligence.

More intelligent than a real dog. I wonder if anybody would laugh if they saw a dog getting squished like that. What is even more saddening is that the little guy died defending his home.

reply

Oh cmon, that was hilarious. those who found it too much need to lighten up or STFU.

As a comedy bit it worked, as a means of making Rover lovable it failed.

One could argue that it sends out a message that it's OK to crush small things that annoy you which is maybe not the best thing to have in a film aimed at kids.
