Boring and disappointing

Watched this thinking it was a supernatural thriller with secret societies and such, and it turned out to be crap. No payoff whatsoever. Even The Skulls and its sequels are better than this. Perhaps the book is better. I don't know cause I never read it, but chances are this isn't a faithful adaptation. And the christian element I've heard many point out on the message boards IMHO are non-evident. It was just a waste of time.

I second this comment. It was a really boring movie which had little-to-no redeeming factors. The whole thing just feels cheesy and the soundtrack enhances that feeling.

reply

Ditto, utterly boring.

I am completely baffled. Before watching the movie, I checked the IMDB rating and it was around 7-8 and had a bunch of good reviews. I watched it (took me 3 tries since I kept falling asleep every time lol). As I kept watching I waited for something to happen to turn this movie into a thriller as is listed by imdb. But nothing happens and what a bloody dissapointment. One of the few movies I wouldn't recommend anyone to watch.
What is the point of this movie? Keep praying? Wow thanks for the newsflash.

reply

Damn wasted time. The higher rating must have come from those who enjoyed its christian message: pray, and the movie will get better. Alas, it didn't. Bad cinema, bad storytelling, bad bad bad!

reply

About half-way through this flick I actually heeded it's message and began to pray. Sadly my prayers were not answered and I did not die before the movie ended. Even a great actor can't turn crap into cake.

reply

Totally agree. This movie was a pile of garbage.

Agreed!... This film is a big waste of time! Boring is not enough to describe it...

I can't believe this movie was made. I can't believe I actually sat through the whole thing. Where do you start? Let me start and end as the movie should have done, quickly.

The main device in the film was a book/list. Interesting plot device, old used throughout history, nothing new. It brought everyone together, then we discovered the "exhilarating" power of the book... Oh yes it has the power to kill people.

But our climax was our guy walking into the room and saying no thats it its over. Followed by a scene of the great power gone the master can no longer harness the power. What? Brutal. Not to mention it was shot like the DP just graduated from film school. Come on...

I don't like being so negative... But I want 2 hours of my life back.
Poor acting, poor writing, poor cinematography, poor plot, poor editing.

5 thumbs down.

To Director:
And if there was a historical list of some sort and you made up the supernatural elements then you also just butchered history.

HA! Look at his credits... he's been making movies since Midnight Cowboy... they just quoted him many times in a Vanity Fair article on Saturday Night Fever.... No matter whether you liked the story it was well shot.

It is based on a novel and a faithful adaptation at that.

Do your homework and go steal another movie.

I've managed to let this movie steal only 7 minutes of my life. :-) From the start the movie looked like it wasn't going anywhere so I paused it came to IMDB to verify if it still had the high rating. It didn't. Glancing over the comments confirmed my suspicion. Thanks for saving me from watching this.

well, i give it 10 fingers down!

I saw this movie because of Hilarie Burton (big fan here) but i didn't like the movie at all.. not because it's christian but because i believe it's not a good movie.. the main idea of "the list" was promising, but it could have been delveloped much better... Lots of things weren't explained.. For example:

1) What was going on with the guy in the cementery? The one who disapeared and knew the name of josiah? Was he a ghost or what?

2) What did Jo see on the internet about Desmond that made her so worried before she had the stroke?

3)How did the whole "power" thing worked?

4) What had the golden coin to do with anything?

And that's just the beginning... So, yeah, very disappointing...

If someone could answer my doubts (if it's posible..lol) it would be really helpful! Thanks!

P.S.: sorry if my english is not very good...(im spanish)

4) The coin was a symbol of the family or something... It had the date that the list was created on it.

1, 2, 3, I don't know... It sucked. They said that John C. Calhoun was William Henry Harrison's Secretary of State, while he was Tyler's Secretary of State. Daniel Webster was Harrison's Secretary of State for the thirty-some days of Harrison's presidency and most of Tyler's. Calhoun spent a little less than a year as Tyler's SOS. Calhoun was, however, VP for 2 Presidents (Jackson and Q Adams) but I guess that doesn't matter as much? They could have said something about the Calhoun Doctrine as well, but...

In short, YES, they butchered history!

Agree with ALL of these comments as well!

Only will add that if someone tries to get you to watch this garbage... RUN!
