Insulting!

As a Southerner this movie was insulting! Some actors/actresses can pull off a southern accent. These actors (especially the son) failed terribly. They butchered all attempts.

Typical stereotyping of the South that one finds in low budget films, or films made by Hollywood which has no clue about the true South, or failed to do research.

Historically inaccurate. Everything from dates to geographic locations.

Typical story of rich white descendants from rich white slave owners. Evil, controlling individuals who are out to control the world.

Movies like this bother me greatly as people who have never visited the South, or have not educated themselves believe that movies like this are as factual as a History Channel documentary. It leads people to think this is how we are "down here". Sad conclusion.

Do I have anything good to say? Well... the photography was very good, sorry that this excellent talent was wasted on this film.

Music was good as well.

The plot (for a fiction novel) had great possibilities... unfortunately the directors fell asleep at the wheel in bringing this "plot" to the surface.

Bottom line... save your time and money.

wow! three comments about the same movie in one day! Two of them the same... you must REALLY hate the film.

I'm a Southerner too and if you listen to the commentary, so are the filmmakers.

Not offensive. Except to those inclined to hate everything... like all of your posts on other films.

Did you see it?

reply

yes. and i've lived in the South my whole life. SC to be specific. Have vacationed many times in Georgetown/Charleston.

it was a low budget film. And as such, it was okay. Not insulting though.

The male lead is from VA as is Hilarie Burton and most of the cast.

I am tired of the "low budget" excuse for movies that are awful. I guess I think that if one is going to do something... then do it right.

And it was insulting. Movies like this portray the South as something that it is not.

It is not just the South that this is done. Los Angeles comes to mind!

I was born and raised in Tennessee, then lived in Southern California for over 15 years.

Thanks to false impressions about the South, people in California were surprised that I was not running around barefoot. In many cases African Americans there would shy away from me when they heard my southern accent... convinced that I was prejudice. This was all thanks to the movie industry... and movies like The List.

In the same way... people here that had never been to Southern California thought I was spending my day on the beach with gorgeous blonds, or seeing gunfights with the LAPD.

These types of false impressions bother me... and as it has personally affected me... therefore I find it insulting.

That said... I disliked the movie, and found it insulting. You on the other hand liked it (I guess) and found it fine. Everyone has a right to their opinion... and I respect yours. Do the same with mine.

After all...you know what they say about opinions...

do you not realize this movie is made from the book? they can't re write it

reply

You think they don't change things when they make movies from books? Wow! I mean...wow!
