When is this meant to be set?

I'm being facetious, of course. Everything about this film, from the costumes and decor, to the son's car and the staid, prudish attitudes give the impression of being set in a bygone era. Presumably it's meant to bring Maggie's professional life into relief, but I found it just highlighted the fact that the issues it dealt with aren't especially relevant to modern-day Britain.

Oh whisky, leave me alone.
