Why did Simon point his gun to his parters head?

I was wondering that as well, but simon was actually handing the broken gun that he had just fixed to his partner, when the partner when to get the gun he must have pulled the trigger shooting simon.
p.s i didn't say spoiler because it is already in the title

I thought he fixed the gun?
I thought, that since he wasn't very stable, he was just having an extreme hissy-fit, was about to just shoot everyone, (starting with the one who had been on his nerves the most) and everybody else just also freaked....

I believe Simon "fixed" the gun, handed it back just as *beep* was going down. But as foreshadowed early in the movie, the gun malfunctioned, and accidently fired as he handed it off, shooting him in the process.

I thought I saw Simon fix and give his idiot partner (cant remember his name) his gun back way before the end. I was trying to figure out who shot Simon too, till now. I just watched it again and I think what happened was Simon looked like he was about to shoot Jessica, (remember Jessica said Simon's idiot partner had a crush on her) when the dumb guy saw that Simon was going to shoot Jessica, he shot Simon. When all the cops came in the dumb guy was looking down at his gun in his hand like he couldn't believe he really shot Simon in the head. Looked like it was probably the first time he hit what he was shooting at.
