I like to watch some of my old time favorite shows at 3-6am including Little Bear, Gullah Gullah Island and Franklin and I wasn't too familiar with the newer shows on Nick Jr. Except ones that are pop culture icons like Dora which I hate. Actually personally I think a lot of the current kids shows I had seen pale in comparison to the ones I watched when I was younger.
Anyways this show airs right after Franklin and I was surprised that it was actually really funny. Actually it was the first kid show I had actually laughed at including the ones from my childhood. (I'm only 20) I mean they had good stories or were fun to watch but they weren't really funny.
And not in the sense of verbal jokes, but more in the style of the physical jokes.
Like today I saw Moo Moo's Snoozity Snooze(according to my DVR thats the title) and there was a scene where Wubbzy and the others go through a teddy bear packing plant and at one point they each have stuffing on their heads, then they are put into little bear costumes and Wubbzy does this look like "Oh great, I look stupid".
And it's totally something a kid wouldn't notice and thats what most kids shows are nowadays. The main characters are usually stupid and they talk down to the viewers.
But this show wasn't like that, actually I think it's a step in the right direction. Of course they are supposed to relate to 2-4 year olds and thats why. I also like the animation style, it's very digital. Ni Hao, Kai-lan is made in the sense of Dora but she isn't annoying and she doesn't talk down to the viewer. Instead of asking the viewer "If the ball is yellow or purple" she'll ask questions like "Do you think so and so is being a bad friend". And also I like how the characters are mean, usually in kids shows everyones nice but on here each episode a character is downright mean, and ignoring the fact the character changes their attitude just by having the viewer tell them too it's still a good message. Definitely for older kids where Dora is more for 3 year olds.
I don't think kids today would enjoy Little Bear or Franklin, they want fast, upbeat singing shows and these shows would be too quiet for them.
PS I wish they'd bring back Face.
