Hey, just wondering, if any Savatage/TSO fans know when the next Trans-Siberian Orchestra cd is supposed to be out? On the TSO boards, there is some info about it, but no info when it's coming out. I guess it's called "Night Castle," I'm really interested in hearing it.

reply

I am a big Savatage/Tso fan (I went to their concert twice this past year) and to quote the book i got at the TSO concrt "The band spent most of last year in the studio working on the next album Night Castle, which as usually is incredibly behind schedule as we try to get it just right." I can tell you it was originally suppose to come out in 2007, and it will feature Carmina Burana- O Fortuna (which is amazing!) Hope that has brought you some insight on what you wanted to know

P.S. "Redemption" is amazing, i just got their cds when i read they were with Dream Theater, and they deserve to be on my list

reply

That's all I needed to know, thanks a lot! I'll just enjoy their other 4 cd's (4? or 5? I forget, lol)for the time being. They are just incredible, I really wish I could see them in concert, I heard it's mind-blowing.

reply

I like a few power metal bands too, some do sound progressive, actually they're pretty similar. Let's see, I can think of 5....

Dragonforce
Helloween
Nightwish
Stratovarius
Blind Guardian

Dragonforce are insane! 2-3 minute solos in most songs, and LONG songs, and they're all at full blast (a slower ballad on each one though). I think they rewrote the power metal history book!

I can't think of anyone else, power or progressive right now, I've got a bunch more I know.....hafta check.

reply

dragonforce is a very cool band but when they play live...sucks!!

reply

You've seen 'em? Are they really that bad live? What's the problem? They just don't sound good or what? Or just too much noise...

reply

i've seen live dragonforce at gods of metal '06 in italy,in studio the components of the band are great but when they play live aren't precise in specially when the guitarists do armonization and solos.the drummer isn't precise while the bassist and the keyboarder are good when play live.anyway sound is good.

(sorry for my english)

bye

Blind Guardian and Nightwish are the only two from that list that can qualify (with flying colors I might add) as prog. Playing fast, long and with many solos does not prog (even prog metal) make. The playing has to be complex. As I am most familiar with Dragonforce (ugh) of the non-prog bands on that list, I will focus on them. All they do is do really basic scales, chord progressions, and beats quite fast. The reason they sound bad live is that they are so processed in the studio that they should never be considered a good band (genre prejudices aside). They record their songs at a fraction of the speed you hear on the album. Don't consider this a personal attack (if you do I apologize).

I heard that Jon Oliva said Night Castle should be out sometime around Christmas.
