are words of this son against islamics?is True?

reply

No, it's just about how people in general justify terrible acts through higher causes and divine intention, all of which can be interpreted as one sees fit.

Ye your correct, im muslim and the first time i concentrated on the lyrics i asked myself the same question, but no it just says how people do terrorist acts and say their doing it in the name of god, sadly these days its these people who call themselves muslims do these horrible acts when infact their doing the total opposite of what the relegion tells them to do.

To add, when they played an excerpt from this song at the concert i went to, it seemed as if they had many pictures of cults, specifically Jim Jones. So i think that the song could be against Cults as well. I see it as killing for a religion, which most religions have been guilty of at some time/ still today. No matter who it is for/against, it is still one of my favorite songs from Dream Theater.

Listen, when the prophet speaks to you

P.S. For Example: among many
"Forty sons and daughters
Un-consenting plural wives
Perversions
In the name of God" sounds familiar (Children of God)

Yeah, check out the performance of this song on the "Budokan" DVD. On the monitors in the back of the stage they have a clip of Jim Jones, or whoever that creepy old man is.

Further proof is also to keep in mind the fact that members of other religions have been doing terrible deeds "in the name of God" for a long time now too. Just look at the Middle Ages.

yeah, christianity is as big a suspect as any for killing in the name of God.

Did you know that Labrie, Myung and Petrucci are all christian and Rudess and Portnoy jewish?

WHich is surprising considering some lyrics of DT's sound anti-religious.

key word here: sound!!!!
besides, one thing is being anti-religious but not anti-christianity.
For example i believe in Jesus, but not on religious, if you check on the bible, there´s no need for church! christianity is about follow Jesus steps.

Another thing.
What do you think about Symphony x´s Lyrics (especially on "Paradise lost" album)

I think we need to be as clear as possible. Portnoy wrote the lyrics to this song. This song is about how in many different religions, people can be misled by evil people in the guise of a prophet.

In concert, during the bridge, we see several "cult" leaders, and their followers on the screen behind the band.

I remember seeing, Jim Jones, David Koresh, The guy that lead the Hale-Bop cult. All these men led their followers to death. Many of these cults see women as nothing more than baby factories to make more followers with. The cults would allow poligamy. By doing that, they attract more men. That's your unconsenting plural wives.

After the deaths of these men, it's usually found that they participated in some pretty sick things. Incest, orgies, pedophelia, all accepted and practiced by all of these men. That's your perversion in the lyrics. This song was in no way targeted at Islam.

But don't worry, Islam got attention on Octavarium. LeBrie wrote a song about the jihadies that acctacked on 9/11. He didn't mean to offend all of Islam, just the guys who commit acts of terror. Seeing as the band is based in NYC and that the three remaning original members grew up in New York, I can understand the sentiment. I would not be surprised if they didn't know a victim outright, they know a victim's relative. They caught some flack from Islamic groups and some people who are narrow minded. Again, he didn't bash Islam, just blind ignorance in committing acts of terror.

I hope I helped make this as clear as possible. This band is WAY too talented to have people scared off by misundertanding of some lyrics.
