A great premise wasted

Reading the DVD cover at the local library I was excited at the prospect of what this film could offer. A brilliant idea executed very poorly in my opinion. I can't really put my finger on exactly why other than Christian Slater didn't cut it for me and I usually think he's pretty good. There was something about his performance that kept me sitting outside the situation looking in, rather than stepping in and living it. A comparative performance would be by Jared Leto who plays Mark Chapman in Chapter 27 depicting the days leading up to the murder of Lennon. I'm not usually a fan of Leto but his performance lets me in and I'm living those God awful moments and thoughts of this nutcase up to the moment of execution. The magic of film sucking you into it's reality.
