THE MERMAID CHAIR MUSIC SOUNDTRACK

I replied to another post about this, so I know I wasn't the only one who, while finding the movie less than compelling, was stirred by the haunting music.

I could not rest until I found out it was composed by Secret Garden's Rolf Lovland, of whom I've never heard until now. I am not a New Age music fan, but the music used in the movie was quite beautiful. I've identified the following songs from Secret Garden's "Once in a Red Moon" cd as ones used in the movie (I think--having only seen it once):

Awakening
The Promise
Elegie

The rest of their songs are similar and maybe others can identify more of the songs in the movie.

I too watched the movie for the first time last night and was very taken by the music, particularly the violin and piano pieces. It's hard to describe the emotions it raises but I guess that's more to do with how our various lives have developed.

Thanks for your research which has saved me a lot of time. Shame it's not available on a soundtrack.

Are you sure the song you heard was "The Promise"?
Because there is a song composed by Rolf Lovland from the album "Earthsongs" which is quite similar to "The Promise". It's called "Searching For The Past" and was composed in 2005.
Though I haven't seen the movie yet, so I could be wrong, of course ;)

Hi,
I know this tread is getting old :)) But I just wanted to say that I was the recording/mixing engineer of the music to this film. Most of the music was made for the movie and not released on an album.

Thank you so much.

Great music by Rolf Løvland, sounding very much like Thomas Newman or George Winston, in other words very masterful.
