this movie irritated me

There are so many things about this move that irritate me. First I don't discount the idea that Jesus could have been black although it is much more likely that he was arabic. But not all romans are white, and what is that stupid accent. Beyond all of those things this movie is ridiculous. There was no concept of race during the time we're talking about. The idea of differentiating based on black ad white rather than region didn't begin for another 13 to 17 hundred years. While this could have been a good idea the movie would have been better if it had been more subtle. Cast Jesus as black but don't beat us over the head with race in a way that is totally unrealistic and detracts from the rest of the movie and the point being made.

Correct. I don't give a hoot what color God is. I was more interested in his message.

Now....this movie....ugh.. I was hoping it would be an interesting viewpoint, but yeah.. black/white issues like the movie protrayed?!?!? come on!!! What really irritated me though with the movie was how Jesus was portrayed as a dumb human! like he couldn't think. He didn't know who was going to turn him in (one of the apostles says it instead), he was scared to *** about dying (which yeah, anyone would be) but dang they only showed him freaking out when he prayed to God and hitting the ground and then running in fear from the sounds in the sky!!!! I was annoyed with the lesser view of Jesus seen.

Now in case anyone comments about why i posted. I came here because of how jesus wasn't seen as part of the God figure and was curious if anyone else commented on that.

Yeah, I'm a black guy (gasp) but heck, had hoped for a really interesting movie, and instead just saw a lot of bible flaws... Still recommend seeing it though as it's a fresh new look (maybe helps those that DO feel jesus' race matters)

Now I'm going to wait for the other movie about the Hispanic Jesus...

would be neat if someone that could draw would paint a picture of jesus with shades into multiple races then saying "what matters, the race or the message"

Vetrijar,

I enjoyed reading your response. I'm going to try to see the movie this Sunday. It's finally coming to my area. I'm not very concerned with what race Jesus was, but I am VERY concerned with whether or not this version stays true to the message of the Bible. From what you're telling me, this portrayal makes Jesus come off as cowardly and clueless, something he definitely was not.

Yes, I hope you do get to watch it, and if you get a chance, come back here and write what you thought.

I agree with everything you say. This movie offended me, not because Jesus was black, but because he was a wimp. He was so weak and terrified. He was not a leader or a savior. He was nothing. I couldn't even feel sympathy for him. I bought the movie because the description on the back made it sound like a deep thought provoking film. But I was so disappointed in the characterization of Jesus that I can't recommend it to anyone. I would really love to see a well made movie about black Jesus. This wasn't it.
