Doesn't making the crucifixion racially motivated kinda miss the point?

First, I'm not at all opposed to Jesus being black. I've been waiting for a movie where he's black to be made for a while (and toyed with the idea of doing it myself at one point). But from what I've heard of the movie, they go into the crucifixion being racially motivated.

WHY?

Forgive me for complaining about something in a movie I haven't seen, and if I'm off base then I'll kindly shut my noise hole, but I don't care for the idea at all. The idea of making a Black Jesus movie shouldn't be about "oh, they killed him cause he was black. Hate Crime!" or anything like that. The point should be that the message is the SAME, no matter WHAT colour his skin was. Making his death racially motivated only serves to highlight the difference between a white Jesus and a black Jesus, rather than saying that the message is the same.

So, am I way off base or are my complaints warranted?

you're not off base by any means, and i would really love to chat about your complaint BUT given the fact that this was the worst movie i have ever seen (i *just* finished watching it) i will not even go into it
i think that the movie has WAY bigger issues than the actual theme, i mean, the cliches were HORRIBLE (including the black jesus hugging a black sheep that had been described by one of the prophets as "wild") and the acting was AWFUL
the editing, directing and just overall production is lacking in so many aspects that it's not even worth mentioning
i rarely ever post anything on imdb and i have been looking at this site for years but the sheer atrocity of this movie compells me to relay my own "message"
the worst thing about the movie is that they used what could have potentially been an awesome theme and butchered it by making a really disastrous movie
(please forgive my lack of punctuaton and incorrect spelling but it's late)

Ditto... i forgot in the other post to mention the black sheep part. yes, i know.. we as blacks have had a REALLY hurtful past (no need to explain all that we went through again) but hey, we aren't the only race, sex, size, deformed, non-human that has been torn down by other people...

the film should have shown how the message would be the same, but show that, hey, jesus could have been darker.. (um.. i'm not saying that he wasn't ...)

I was looking at the DVD today, and thought of buying it. I've been trying to view lots of different Religious films, and I try to be open. I'm white you see. So I was interested in seeing a black Jesus film for a change, but the racism thing just really turned me off. Why did they make it that way? Is the Black Jesus religion, whatever it is really believe that? That the whole thing was about his skin color and not his teachings? Makes me think Christ really did get screwed over. Did he and God just figure white people would crucify him?
