I know that Longford is now avalible from "Amazon" but it seems it's only avalible on a region one DVD...does anyone know whether it will be coming out for region two?

This demonstrates the stupidity of "industry" thinking - trying to limit the availability of DVDs. Who in America is likely to find this film of interest? Yet, Brits, who are more likely to be interested, are denied the DVD. The "industry" - both film and music - deserves all the trouble that they are in.

I'm afraid that's only the start of it. There's alot of British and Irish drama both for TV and film only available on DVD in the USA and Canada (region 1) and which is bizarrely not available in the UK or Ireland. It's an absolutely crazy situation where DVDs of interest in one territory are only available in another.

I totally agree. Its the same as the tremendous 'All or Nothing at All'. I suppose the thinking is that Region 2 does not have enough of a predicted market share to warrant the release of the film here. Whereas, because Region 1 is a much larger English language market, they figure it will make profit over its pressing costs, perhaps without considering the subject matter in relation to the audience.

Mind you, since an American company saw profit in co-producing this in the first place... perhaps we underestimate US interest in the matter.

reply

Indeed. This a ridiculous decision.

And they complain about people downloading for free

reply

Precisely... But even that is quite difficult... I saw that Channel 4 produced it, I just wrote them to ask about it!

I live in Malaysia, where pirated DVDs are freely available. I saw Longford on the TV here, but have never seen the DVD.
