Marshall football team charter flight on 43rd anniversary of 1970 crash

The Marshall football team, the Thundering Herd, played in Tulsa last Thursday night, which was the 43rd anniversary of the disastrous loss of the 1970 team which was returning from a game on the same night. The date is very important to everyone connected with Marshall University, and for that reason, the kickoff in Tulsa was delayed to 7:36pm, in rememberance of that terrible night.

After the game, which Marshall came from behind and won, the team, cheerleaders, coaches and others boarded their charter airplane around midnight for the flight back to Huntington. This time...the aircraft was a modern A320 Airbus, operated by US Airways.
This time...the flight was quiet, safe and uneventful. The players arrived at Huntington around 3am, boarded their busses and went home.
