We Are Mashall vs Remember the Titans

Both We Are Marshall and Remember the Titans are inspirational football films. I am just curious which film people like better and why.

Remember the Titans is the best football film ever made in my opinion. The overall cast is better and although the story behind We Are Marshall is very emotional, I find the story of having to integrate a black and white school to play together on the same team with a black head coach for Remember the Titans to be much more engaging.

We Are Marshall was not a terrible film, although I do feel that Matthew McConaughey was mis-cast and it was a bit slow moving a times. Remember the Titans, not only had a great cast, and awesome football action, but it also developed the characters equally as well.

Both were good movies. I think Remember the Titans has a HUGE edge over WAM because of Denzil vs. McConaughey. McConaughey went way overboard in over-acting in some scenes of WAM.

Remember the Titans was better, that's one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. Really, really great film in my opinion.

We Are Marshall could have been a lot better then it was, but I don't think they picked the right director.

Giselle, fool.

I was coming on here to ask the same question. I loved Matthew McConaughey's portrayal of Jack Lengyel. And I think the overall production is better in WAM. I love both of these movies so much, but I think I would pick REMEMBER THE TITANS.

I like RTT more because they used the wisdom of a coach, and the eventual camaraderie of the football team, to illuminate how early discriminatory ideals are instilled out of fear and ignorance. We watch how these young men come into their own, and to the realization that they've been duped by such ignorance. I usually don't like didactic movies, but this movie was clever and not obsequiously trying to make a point.
Oh and Denzel is, easy on the eyes...

"We Are Marshall" is the better film, and it's not even close. The other movie is perhaps a 4 out of 10, IMHO.

I love both movies, but after watching WAM on tnt the other night, I'd have to go with marshall. They were trying to rebuild a team and honor the people that died during that horrible tragedy, trying to bring back faith to a town that loved their college football team. Great acting, I was moved by the way Jake Ruffin (can't remember the actor's name) was portrayed. Great acting all around. Remember the titans is just fun to watch, we are marshall is fun with the drama struck by a tragedy. I'm more into gloomy flicks, myself.

Having worked in video production, from that stand point I thought that Remember the Titans was a better movie. The video geek in me never leaves and I didn't like some of the camera shots in We Are Marshall. As for the storylines, they are so different and emotional in their own ways that I could not pick a favorite.

We Are Marshall was just terrible. There's absolutely no competition. Remember the Titans is in my mind at least, the very clear winner.

Smart went crazy... where did you go?

Slightly ironically, they were set at the exact same time: the fall of 1971. I was playing football (8th grade) at the time and I can tell you the equipment, etc etc., in both movies is pretty accurate.

"Titans" is somewhat better, but it's not a total mismatch.

Both good football films. My sister was in the band of the actual school that T.C. Williams Titans played for the championship game. As I remember it they had had an undefeated season until the championship game. I listened to the game on the radio and I remember the announcer saying that it looked like a college team came to play high school ball when the Titans took the field.

"Remember the Titans is the best football film ever made in my opinion."

Wow, that's a strong statement. Better than the following?

"The Longest Yard" (the original, not the silly remake)
"Friday Night Lights"
"The Express"
"The Blind Side"
"North Dallas Forty"

Just to name a few.

reply

I would definitely say "Remember the Titans" is better than The Blind Side, in my opinion. I didn't find The Blind Side to be anything out of this world, as far as the film as a whole. I thought Quinton Aaron's acting was pretty horrid, especially for being the star character of the film. It was hard for me to really connect with his character because of this. I was disappointed. Though, the rest of the cast did great.

Remember the Titans, I would say is better than the Express and the Blind Side (there is very little football in the movie). I thought it was better than Friday Night Lights and North Dallas Forty, although I think it isn't as good as The Longest Yard which is the best football movie ever.

RTT was about 80% fiction...take it for what it's worth, there's barely anything true about that flick. WAM is superior in every way.

Remember the Titans may be a good movie but the story behind it is crap. I went to T C Williams High School from 1968 to 1972 and I assure you it didn't happen that way. I love Denzel Washington and he was excellent in this movie.
