why the *beep* is everyone british?

they found a "thai actor" who's korean and sound american and EVERYONE ELSE is freakin british? why is that? BBC film or not...come on..

Why ask a dumb question when you knew the answer. What actors will the BBC cast? Ya know, the British Broadcasting Company.

The people in the film were portraying the people it actually happened to and they were all holidaymakers, British holidaymakers. Anyway, whats so wrong with having british people in the show?

Dean Learner: She was like a candle in the wind... unreliable.

Apparently, of the 9000 or so foreign vacationers who perished, 90% of them were from Europe, including the Nordic countries (Sweden, Finland ect) and Britain. There were a few hundred from North America, but there you have it.

Of course that's just my opinion. I could be wrong...

Of course there is a British bias in the production of film because the script was written by a British citizen, Abi Morgan.

There's nothing wrong with that!

It's still a good production.

It's far more common for Brits to go on family holiday to Thailand than Americans because of the distance. Toni Collette was an Aussie, and there were some Swedish and Dutch represented.

As for the one "Thai" person and the rest "Westerners," the script chose a small area to focus on, a resort, and the effect the tsunami had on that resort and the surrounding area. It's far easier for the main audience for this film, Americans, to identify with the group focused on--well, as I would guess the filmmakers were thinking. I personally wouldn't mind seeing a foreign-language film made somewhere like Sri Lanka about how whole towns were wiped out and populations lost, but that's not what this film was.

Is there anyone else who has slightly mysterious bruises

reply

The funny thing about your comment is that if everyone was American (extremely unrealistic) you wouldn't have given it a second thought.

reply

Its better than just another movie showing some flag waving american coming in to save the day. Ho Hummmmmmmmmmmm

This is more realistic the acting is better and.........they aren't all british.

That would be like me (an Australian) why in Independence Day all the actors were yanks and its the americans who come to the worlds rescue.
The simple fact is, when a country makes a movie, it will usually cast local talent. Aside from it giving their own actors a shot at the movies, it could be that the movie is SUPPOSED to be about a group of british survivors? Would seem a little strange to have a brit with an american accent.

I don't think you need to worry about the rest of the universe thinking theres anything other than americans on earth, as for westerners, the only way to become an astronaut is to be an american citizen.
