Replacement Child/True Stories

Does anybody know if that actually happened, if people took (and possibly ended up permanently keeping) children that weren't theirs?

Also does anyone know the names of some of the real life families these stories were taken from? I know I recognized the woman with the two sons story from a documentary I saw about the Tsumni & while the others seemed familiar I couldn't place them.
